Introduction of SWOT: What Is A SWOT Analysis? As SWOT is the acronym of Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats. A SWOT Analysis is a powerful technique for identifying Strengths and Weaknesses, and for examining the Opportunities and Threats. Strengths:
What advantages industry do they have that others don’t have? What do they do better than anyone else? What personal resources do they have access to? What do other people see as their strengths?
Weaknesses:
What should they avoid? What could they improve? What things are the people around them likely to see as weaknesses?
Opportunities: What trends could they benefit from? How could they turn their strengths into benefits? Threats:
What obstacles do they face? What are the people around them doing? Is changing technology threatening their position? Could their weaknesses seriously threaten them?
SWOT analysis for the B. Ed program in Govt. College of Education, Afzalpur AJK: INTRODUCTION: Location: Govt. College of Education, Afzalpur AJK is situated almost 16 Km away from the new and beautiful city named Mir Pur AK. It is one of the old and traditional institutions of Azad Kashmir. Affiliation with Punjab University: It remained affiliated with Punjab University from 1947 to 1981. Affiliation with AJK University, Muzaffar Abad: It has been affiliated with Azad Jammu and Kashmir University, Muzaffar Abad
since1982. B. Ed & B. S. Ed programs: To provide skillful and well trained teachers to the secondary schools of Azad Kashmir, B. Ed and B. S. Ed classes has been working since 1985. M. Ed program: Recently an M. Ed class has also been included. Basic Facilities: The college provides many basic facilities to its trainers like hostels, laboratories for science education, laboratory high school, a play ground and a college bus etc. Examination system: Annual system of examination is used for all the courses.
OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY: The basic objective of this study is to find out and the above following things about the above mentioned college and especially its B. Ed program. A framework for identifying and analyzing strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. The impetus to analyze a situation and develop suitable strategies and tactics. A basis for assessing core capabilities and competences. The evidence for, and cultural key to, change. A stimulus to participation in a group experience.
Courses offered for B. Ed program: COMPULSORY SUBJECTS: 1. Philosophy and History of Education. 2. Educational Psychology. 3. School Administration. 4. a. Islamyat 4. b. Pakistan studies 5. a. Urdu Language and Literature. 5. b. English Language and Literature. (Total 500 marks for the compulsory subjects.) OPTIONAL SUBJECTS (SCIENCE GROUP) The students have to choose any one of the following group. 1.Teachings of Physics + Teachings of Mathematics. 2.Teachings of Chemistry + Teachings of Biology. (Total 400 marks for each group.)
OPTIONAL SUBJECTS (ARTS/ HUMANITIES GROUP): The students are offered to choose any one group of the following. 1.Teachings of English + Teachings of Urdu. 2.Teachings of English + Teachings of Islamyat. 3.Teachings of English + Teachings of Mathematics 4.Teachings of English + Teachings of Arabic 5.Teachings of English + Teachings of Pakistan Studies. (Total 400 marks for each group.) TEACHING PRACTICE: The teaching practice of each optional subject is also included. Each subject is allotted 100 marks. Total marks: The total allocated marks for B. Ed program are1100. STRENGTHS:
Recourses are being used well. The college management is quite up to the mark. A very less expensive (costs only Rs. 4192 for the whole program.) All the labs are available and are in good condition for studying science subjects. Both the male and female students have a good use of there separate hostels. Friendly, cooperative and supportive staff. High enrolment. Provides a lot of opportunities in building the students' confidence. No political interference.
WEAKNESSES:
The syllabus is very old and rusted. Unavailability of internet facility. Gender bias. Result late. Selective study. Less qualified staff. Less reliability of scores due to only subjective type of examination criteria. Assignment work is never been given to the students. Library books are not enough to meet the needs of the subjects. No research work.
OPPORTUNITIES: Almost all the secondary schools AJK have its graduate. Comparatively provides good opportunities to its students as compare to the other
institutions do. College bus is available for transportation. Location is quite good and is accessible for the maximum. THREATS:
High drop out. Teacher competency is not enough to meet the needs of the modern epoch. Other resources are replacing teacher. Saturated market.
