Every youth in Arlington deserves a great summer. That’s why the 2009 Arlington County Guide to Summer Camps includes camps run by Arlington County as well as camps contracted by Arlington County…the bigger your choice the more u likelihood your child will find something that’s the right fit. You . can tell its an Arlington County camp when you see the AC icon Register for these camps using the Registration Form on page 19. If you don’t see an AC icon, then the camp listed is contracted by Arlington County. All camps adhere to a Staff-to-Participant ratio of 1:12 unless otherwise indicated and will make accommodations for kids with disabilities. Fee reductions are offered by all camps and all camps (either run by Arlington County or private groups) meet County standards and specifications. All camps in this catalog are monitored by PRCR staff and are sure to delight kids of all ages. Questions? Call 703-228-4747.

ave fun, enjoy new challenges and be safe! That’s what’s happening in Arlington this summer. Check out the Arlington County Summer Camp Catalog for camps and programs that keep kids engaged, active and focused on expanding their horizons! Arlington County programs offer lots of choices, safe and inviting environments, and the chance for children to develop strong bonds with their community. Kids get their fill of thrills through sports; showcase their talents through the arts; reap the rewards of volunteerism; invigorate their imaginations through creative play; explore the outdoors through nature programs; and have adventures galore. All while making friends and lifelong memories. Arlington’s quality programs encourage youth to get involved, develop their sense of self and community, show positive sportsmanship, be creative and learn from those who have different life experiences than they do. We call it “asset building.” Summer is the perfect time to bring people together by nurturing a healthy development that helps young people grow up confident, caring and responsible.

Send a Kid to Camp... Please!!! PRCR established the Summer FUNd in 2004 to cover registration and field trip fees for children who could otherwise not participate due to financial hardship. Please help us ensure that all children in Arlington have a fun, engaging and asset-building summer. Contribute to a child’s summer adventures by donating during the registration process or on the Arlington County Camp Registration Form.

Arlington Camps for All Abilities As part of our inclusion philosophy, youth with disabilities are welcome to register for programs of interest. We have designated Fairlington and Lubber Run Tot camps, McKinley Elementary Summerfest and Summer Teen Express as sites that receive additional services. These sites have a lower camp maximum, lower staff to camper ratio and additional training for staff on program modifications, behavior management and inclusion of individuals with disabilities. Also check our TR Camps on page 14. Everyone benefits from Arlington County programs. Trained therapeutic recreation staff can assist you in making sure your child has the right support and accommodations, no matter the special needs. To ensure that all participants have an enjoyable, safe and successful experience, upon request we provide reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities. Camp Facts 101 Everyone can have a great time this summer, but not at another’s expense. All participants must follow directions and be respectful to fellow campers, staff, property and program boundaries. While each camp has specific policies for each session, there are common policies among all Arlington camps. These policies were developed to be sure all kids are safe and have the best chance of an enriching and fun summer. 1.

Children must wear appropriate clothing for the camp and its activities. No sandals allowed except on water days.

2. Children must bring their lunch to daylong camps. 3. Caregivers need to pick up a calendar of activities on the first day of each camp session. 4. Anyone enrolled in Summer Fun Centers, PRCR Camps and Nature Center Camps are automatically covered under a group accident policy. 5. Behavior resulting in extreme disruption or intentional harm to self, others or property can result in removal from the program at the discretion of program staff. Camp and playground counselors are trained to use supportive strategies and available resources to encourage positive participation as alternatives to removal. 6. Locations are subject to change (this catalog conveys the most correct information available before going to press). For updates, contact the registration office at 703-228-4747. 7.

The Arlington County Board approves all camp Fees: The goal is to provide programs for all county children. You may qualify for reduced Fees. Call the Registration Office for more information 703-228-4747.

8. Camps with insufficient enrollment will be canceled. Registration staff will help direct families to comparable open programs.

Don’t Let Cost Deter Your Summer Fun! Arlington values its children and is committed to making sure all our children have access to fun and fulfilling summer programs. Camp registration fees are adjusted based on household size and income, just like the school lunch program. Fee reductions are on a sliding scale based on household income and size. For application qualifications, guidelines and procedures go to www.arlingtonva.us/ prcr, call 703-228-4747 or go to a customer service desk at Thomas Jefferson Center, Barcroft Sports & Fitness Center or 3700 South Four Mile Run Dr.

9. To keep kids safe, summer programs will limit or cancel outdoor activities, or may even cancel programs, on “Code Red” days. Camper safety is the deciding factor. 10. Field trips are subject to change or cancellation due to inclement weather or if appropriate transportation is unavailable. 11. To learn more about Arlington County camps. Check out the Parent Handbook at www.arlingtonva.us/prcr.

¿Preguntas?
