Sumaia Alsuraimi - Letter To Judges 1

Dear Judges, I want to thank you for taking the time to judge my presentation. My name is Sumaia, and I am a senior at Michigan Islamic Academy. I have always had an interest in dentistry, and I believe that before the dental profession is the profession of a nice smile - a chance to help others and even change lives. Therefore I chose a topic that speaks to me, and that’s oral health. My Senior Project is about oral health among school children. The purpose of this topic was to discuss the risks of poor oral health and to assess the level of knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) of oral health amongst school children. Because I believe that oral health plays an essential role in school children’s health status, the healthier the child’s mouth, the healthier a child's lifestyle is. Thus, a healthier lifestyle can be achieved by educating school kids and their parents about proper practice of oral-hygiene and instilling the positive attitude of diligently caring for one's teeth daily. That was accomplished by creating a survey, testing their KAP and presenting about oral health importance in the hope of benefiting and gaining more knowledge from it. Throughout this project, I was able to build my self-confidence and interact more independently with professional people. This journey has been a very educational experience. Thank you once again.
