[DATE] Founder and President University Chapter Global Law Brigades Dear Potential Global Law Brigades Member: Congratulations on taking the first step to becoming part of a truly rewarding team! I (Personalize this quick intro about how you became involved with GLB) became involved with Global Law Brigades (GLB), a program of the 501c3 non-profit organization, Global Brigades, Inc. Currently, there are over ten Law Brigades chapters forming at different Universities across the United States. GLB is a secular, international volunteer network of students and law professionals who collaborate with local organizations and developing communities to implement legal empowerment, human rights, environmental protection, and business rights strategies for micro-enterprise development. GLB programs are currently based in Panama, where we work with some of the poorest indigenous and small farming communities. This secular organization empowers college students with the material, know-how, and support to assess and deliver legal empowerment solutions in impoverished villages. Our student-driven model rests on four key assumptions: 1. The world’s poorest communities need legal empowerment, human rights advocacy, sustainable tools, training and resources to help break the cycle of poverty—not onetime hand outs. 2. Helping a community develop and function in the formal legal sector builds opportunities for micro-enterprise development, and promotes long-term economic independence; 3. Students have the power to bridge gaps that prevent communities from having access to justice and affordable legal services, and invest funds to address the legal challenges they need to overcome in order to create stability and alleviate poverty;
4. By partnering with local organizations and legal experts, we help to serve communities in need. We offer resources including consulting, sweat equity, financial investment, and success metrics. What we don’t create: false dependencies or empty promises. What we do create: infrastructure, knowledge and hope. For the 2009-2010 academic year, we will be accepting approximately [twenty or thirty] students for our GLB team. After the Executive Board has reviewed your application and resume, you will be notified via email if you are invited for an interview, which will take place [select dates for interviews]. Within a week of your interview, you will be notified if you have been extended an invitation to join the GLB team. If you decide to apply for an open Executive Board position as well, you must fill out the separate application and attach it to the required documents. All application materials are due [select application deadline]. Applications received after drop deadline will not be considered. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions at [your email] or [your phone #]. Thank you and we look forward to receiving your application and learning more about you and your possible contributions to our project this year! Best Regards,
