Statement of Interest My fascination towards Geotechnical Engineering began when I attended a Conference on Civil Engineering Future Aspects at IIT Delhi. One of them is “Analysis and Design of Plug for Slopes and Strengthening measure against failure for Rajpura Dariba Mines” which I felt very interesting during undergraduate study. I was more interested in it when I got scope to study Three-Dimensional Finite Element Analysis of Lakhwar Dam Foundation Systems, Design of Foundation Systems for IFFCO Plant in Phulpur, Allahabad. I did mid term project on “Geotechnical investigation, slope stability analysis and foundation failure for a project consists of 19 different sizes of culvert and RCC bridges northern part of Dhaka City with Bangladesh Consultants. Professor Dr. Sharma at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi had great contribution towards the completion of the project. All these research along with the project experience helped me to better understanding and perform well in Foundation Engineering course during Undergraduate study. I became familiar with different aspects of Rock Engineering, Engineering Properties of Rocks and Rock Masses, Engineering behaviour of Soils, Slope Stability and Earth Dams, Site Investigations and Ground Improvement, Earth Pressure and Retaining Structures, Foundations (shallow and deep foundation design) during study at IIT Delhi, practical Engineering experience and vast research After completion of Bachelor of Technology I got an opportunity to join as an Assistant Engineer with a multinational consulting and Construction company, Concord International and Bangladesh Consultants. Part of the job responsibilities includedgeotechnical investigation, slope stability analysis and foundation failure report, analysis, recommendations and reports on settlement of buildings, bridges, stability of slopes and fills, computer applications for geophysics and mapping, design and analysis of multistoried building, pre-stressed concrete girder bridge, Retaining wall, Box Culvert, pile, mat foundation and pile cap, Geometric and Pavement design (flexible and rigid pavement
included rehabilitation and widening projects), preparation of
land
development concepts, environmental protection policies. Highly comfortable and fully conversant application of software like AutoCAD 3D, MicroStation, RISA, STAAD MS Project, MS Word & Excel, MFG Pro, database software, GIS and Remote Sensing technique SHANTI RANJON ACHARJEE

My present job responsibilities in Automotive Industries 3+ years in Canada under direct supervision of Mr. Shubashish Bhattacharya, Manufacturing Manager, P.Eng included gaining vast & strong Manufacturing / Engineering (Industrial) knowledge in/c Lean manufacturing, depth knowledge of different Software and Programming
My skills, talent along with 5 + years’ of progressive experience in Civil Engineering field and achievement made me confident that I can contribute a lot in Geotechnical fields. I do believe that I will enjoy pursuing higher degree study in this field and thus it could be my challenging field of study as there are many issues still unexplored.
My immediate career goal is to obtain higher degree from a reputed and prestigious Institute in Geotechnical Engineering to apply my talent and progressive experience. U of Alberta would be the best Institute to my knowledge for this option. I am highly interested and would like to have depth knowledge in Foundation design, Site investigation, Slope stability and failure process I look forward to have an opportunity to pursue my higher study from your prestigious University Yours truly,
(Shanti Ranjon Acharjee)
