Standard 5: Assessment of Student Learning Component 5.a: Select or create authentic, formal assessments that measure student attainment of short- and long-term objectives. Artifact: TGMD-2 Assessment Completed: Fall 2018

This artifact is an assessment from my time in an Adapted Physical Education class where we got base line data for our students so that we can create appropriate tasks for them in the future. The TGMD-2 was used even for my student who at the time was 3 years old because it is a standard assessment given to kids that are starting elementary school, so the age was approximate with a student that was so young. This is a formal and well recognized assessment and my student looked to have not done very well but, one of the components was not appropriate to be testing in our given setting. Without having tested for striking though, it seemed that there was improvement to be made in several areas. The TGMD 2 also gives percentiles for males/females in different areas as well as age so that we can see where a child is amongst their peers for some skills or movements. This assessment gave me the data I needed to notice where we should start. The parents suggested I work with the student on running which is fundamental and an area where the student could have used opportunity for improvement. This help with my professional development because it was a first step in me assessing many students in the future. I had only one student which alone was challenging for someone first starting but, it made me realize how hard we must work for every single student. We have to give these students assessments so that we can plan for them and make their time in Physical Education meaningful.
