Alliance representatives have established a strong track record of doing the practical work on behalf of constituents, raising issues on health and education, planning and policing, housing and transport. Your Alliance MLA will work to: • Radically overhaul Planning Laws • • Improve the funding of local health services • • Increase investment in public transport • • Put more police officers on the street • • Tackle bigotry and sectarianism • Geraldine Rice Works • Has lived in Ormeau Road and then Carryduff for most of her life. • Castlereagh Councillor since 1989. Instrumental in the recent campaign to save the Robinson Centre from DUP efforts to close it down. • As Alliance Spokesperson on Health takes a strong stance on a number of issues, especially free personal care for the elderly in residential and nursing homes. • Strong supporter of the police and the rule of law. Member of Probation Board for Northern Ireland, and former member of the Police Authority. Also serves of Castlereagh District Police Partnership. • Has a keen interest in environment, planning and public transport issues in South Belfast. • Committed to using the Good Friday Agreement to improve community relations.

Tom Ekin Works • Successful businessman, based in South Belfast. • Belfast City Councillor since 1997; heads the City Hall working group to start the long process of reducing sectarianism and building better community relations in Belfast. • Initiated and drives the City Hall efforts to produce effective anti-littering measures • Has been effective in making Planners attitudes in South Belfast more in tune with the area, urging less intrusive apartments and less ‘out of town’ supermarkets. • Successfully urged the police to better respond to fears of crime in the homes and streets of South Belfast. • Continues to highlight the problems of vandals and drinkers in the parks and playing fields of South Belfast.

Alliance Working ~ Making the Difference • Alliance MLAs saved the Assembly from collapse in November 2001. We have shown that we are prepared to take risks for peace. • Alliance proposals set out a new vision of how we can live and learn, work and play together. • Alliance is the only party to speak out against all illegal paramilitary flags and murals. • Alliance successfully proposed the appointment of a Children’s Commissioner to protect the interests of children in all aspects of government. • Alliance has persuaded the Government to introduce ‘Hate Crime’ laws, creating stiffer sentences for racial or sectarian offences. • Alliance is working to ensure that paramilitaries 'on the run' are processed through the courts. We demand that those exiled by paramilitaries must be allowed to return home in safety. Community Relations
