Salutation
Dear President Obama:
Our topic is history; yours is happiness
I am a Humanities teacher at New Haven Academy in Connecticut. I am writing in regards to expanding History Day across the nation. In our department, we feel that history can help students better understand their connection to the past, their ancestors, and to humanity.
Use a reference from the text
We realize that you have to deal with many competing priorities, but we hope that you will hold the study of history as important as we do. In your election night speech, you said, “What we've already achieved gives us hope for what we can and must achieve tomorrow.” Help us teach students the lessons from the past so we can build a better future.
