Vishnu Balwant Pithale The wondrous Leela of the cure of Harishchandra Pithale’s epileptic son is given in Chapter 26 of Shri Sai Satcharitra. Harishchandra was blessed by Sai Baba who said “Bapu I have given you Rs.2/- earlier, keep these Rs.3/- along with them, and perform their proper puja regularly. It will benefit you greatly”. Harishchandra returned home and tried to solve the mystery of Baba’s words, as it was his first trip to Shirdi. His mother narrated how his father had received Rs.2/- from Swamy Samarth, earlier thus solving the mystery. The whole family had gathered to hear, all about the pilgrimage to Shirdi. His brother Vishnu Pant Balwant was also present, and a keen desire to visit Shirdi arose in him. He worked as a Thalati in Ville Parle and was rather busy. In 1917 he first visited Shirdi. Carefully he made all preparations, and roamed the fruit market so he could get the choicest unripe mangoes. Finally he found a fruit vendor who had delectable mangoes. Making sure that the fruit were unblemished and unripe he bought a basket of mangoes and set out to Shirdi. Thinking in his mind “If I get ripe mangoes they will spoil by the time I reach Shirdi, but these unripe mangoes will ripen there”. He reached Kopergaon and proceeded thence to Shirdi. Here at Shirdi, Baba was sitting with his devotees and talking, when the Dwarkamai was filled with an aroma of mangoes. The devotees looked at each other and wondered where the mangoes were kept. As Baba said nothing they just waited. Vishnu Pant in the meantime reached Shirdi and kept his belongings and the mangoes in the room and went for ‘Dhuli Darshan’. Baba welcomed him saying “What have you brought for Me? Where are the mangoes?” Vishnu Pant was abashed and said “Baba the mangoes are in the room as they are unripe”

to which Baba replied “Go and fetch them, can’t you smell them?” Vishnu Pant went to the room and brought the basket and placed it before Baba. Upon opening it he was surprised that the mangoes had ripened perfectly and were ready to eat. Happily Vishnu Pant stayed at Shirdi for three

days. He made sure he had Rs.15/- for expenses for his return journey. On the day of his departure he bought a photograph of Baba hoping that Baba would touch it. He carried it to the Dwarkamai and waited. Baba beckoned to him saying “Bhau give Me Rs.15/- as dakshina”. Vishnu Pant at once empted his pocket and gave Rs.15/-. Then Baba asked him for the photograph, which he happily gave. His joy knew no bounds when Baba took the photograph and held it to his heart for a moment. He returned the photograph and granted him permission to go. Vishnu Pant though happy was in a quandary, as he had no money. Finally he decided to walk to Kopergaon as there was no money for the tonga. He walked about half a mile or so when a tonga drew up and stopped near him. The driver said “What are you doing walking in the heat of the day? You do not look like a villager?” Vishnu Pant replied “I am Thalati so I am going to the next village”. The tonga driver laughed and said “Come and have a seat I will take you to Kopergaon”. Vishnu Pant was relieved, and he reached Kopergaon. He alighted from the tonga and collected his belongings. He

looked up to thank the tonga driver, but, to his surprise, the driver and the tonga had disappeared. He went into the station and looked around hoping he could find some acquaintances. But no one was around from whom he could borrow money. Finally the train pulled in and he decided to travel without ticket and bear the consequences. At the next station the Ticket Collector entered his compartment looking at him he said “Namaskar, Pithale Saab”. Vishnu Pant however, could not recognize him. He feared that since the Ticket Collector recognised him he would surely ask for his ticket and would cause a great deal of embrassement. But no such thing happened, and he reached Bombay without any problem. The next day a huge automobile pulled up to his doorstep. A well dressed gentleman came to his home and enquired “Are you Thalati, Vishnu Pant Pithale?” Vishnu Pant was bewildered and thought “I must be in trouble now, why is he asking if I am the Thalati?” The gentleman said “I am J.R.D. Tata, I am in the process of buying land at Sahar (the present air-port). I have a huge staff on my pay roll but they can’t transcribe the Marathi papers into English and vice-verse. I heard you are a capable Thalati and also bilingual”. Vishnu Pant was aghast at what he said and nodded his head. Then the gentleman continued “as a Thalati you earn only Rs.35/- a month. If you agree to work for me I will give you Rs.150/- per a month”. Quickly Vishnu Pant said “I will do this transcription for you, but give me two days to think about working for you”. Tata said “Alright” then drove off. Vishnu pant was in turmoil now. “What if I give up my Government job with pension and benefits and this man does not keep his word? What if he dismisses me after his work is done?” he thought. He spent a restless night. Suddenly it dawned on him that Baba had emptied his pocket of Rs.15/- and was returning it ten fold. Two days later Tata’s Secretary came to his home with the job ‘appointment letter’ and the details of the job benefits etc. And asked him to sign on the dotted line. He bowed to the photograph that Baba had blessed and signed. -(Shri Sai Satcharitra)

Sai Yatra In Punjab By the grace of Lord Shri Shirdi Sai Baba a “Sai Yatra” was being organized in 4 major towns of Punjab on 20th & 21st June’09 by Mr. Dharminder Suri. Rohit Pathak & his entire team traveled 907 kms in two days and performed four soulful Sai bhajan sandhyas in Punjab. It started with Jalandhar wherein more than 10,000 Sai devotees witnessed the blessing of Lord Shri Sai Baba through heart touching bhajans of Rohit Pathak. People could not control their emotions, somebody danced, somebody clapped, somebody sang & somebody cried. It was probably the biggest Sai bhajan sandhya of Punjab. The venue, Holy Hawk Banquet Hall, was completely decorated with flowers & lights. Devotees enjoyed all bhajans. Sai Maa, Tere Deed De Payase Nain Mere, Sai Nath Daya Kar Ke, Ankh Mein Ansoo & Tere Dar Pe AA Gaya Hoon were their favorite. Second in the row was Sai Mandir, Ludhiana. Rohit started the bhajan sandhya with Ganesh vandana & everybody started singing with him. The mandir, devotees & everybody who was present there was completely involved in baba. Rohit sang few traditional Punjabi bhajans as well. The

devotion of devotees in Ludhiana was so much that throughout the bhajan sandhya everybody kept singing & clapping with complete enthusiasm. Next halt was in Sai temple, Khanna. The sandhya started on a very peppy note & right from the start Rohit made everybody dance. The Musical artistry was at its best. In fact the devotees in Khanna themselves never imagined such an impact. Rohit's soulful bhajans touched every heart & brought them even more close to Baba. Rohit told us that it was indeed a pleasure for him & his team also because they have themselves never enjoyed their performances so much. Final destination of Sai Yatra was Chandigarh Sai Temple. Sai devotees were eagerly waiting for Rohit. He started the sandhya with a melodious Sai Dhuni – Sai Ram Sai Ram & a soulful bhajan Tere Sharan Mein. The atmosphere of the bhajan sandhaya was very spiritual & full of devotion. Everybody was clapping & singing with Rohit. The entire hall was jam packed. The sandhya ended with the bhajan Sai Maa. The idea of Sai Yatra was to bring Sai devotees more close to Baba and which was fairly achieved. -Meenu Saluja

HUMBLE REQUEST Many people receive mails from various people whom they do not know and those mails are not concerning them at all. This is a humble request to all groups and associations that such practice should not be in vogue in the name of Sai, because this is not the right way of doing service to Sai Baba.

Baba Gave Me Dollar I have been praying to Sadguru Sainath since November last year. I had lots of problems and I called Jagtap Baba ji one day and told him about all my problems. He told me to pray to Sainath and chant His name ‘Om Sai Ram’ 108 times for 99 days. Fortunately, within 99 days I had a chance to go to Shirdi and it so happened that Jagtap Babaji was there and I was blessed by him. My husband who came with me had arthritis, he was also cured by Jagtap Baba ji. Now my husband is fine and doing well. Last Saturday, after going to the temple in Kuala Lumpur, I came back and prayed to Sainath and I told him all my problems and requested for His help to solve all my problems. After praying I

went to sleep and the next morning after bath I sat down to pray and I saw Malaysian ringgit 10 (Note), on Sainath’s lotus feet. I was surprised as only I and my children were in the house and my husband was away on work. It was a MIRACLE for me and the next day on 13thJuly 2009 I called Jagtap Babaji and he told me it was from Sadguru Sainath who has given me the dollar note. I have placed the note on Sainath’s lotus feet as per the advise from Shri Jagtap Babaji. I am still chanting ‘Om Sai Ram’ everyday. I would like to thank Jagtap Babaji for helping me to solve my problems. Thank you Sai Baba. Om Sai, Sri Sai, Jay Jay Sai. Mallika Pasupathy, Kuala Lumpur, W. Malaysia

Miracles Do Happen A True Story by I.R. Kumar HAPPY BIRH DAY, she whispered while kissing my forehead in the early hours of April 15, 2009, which she normally used to forget. I felt heavenly to have her sitting by my side. I was really surprised why this overwhelming show of love and affection only at this juncture of my 73rd birthday since she never exposed her feelings like this ever before. I asked, what is this? To which she hesitatingly replied, ‘who knows I may or may not be there next time’, as if she knew her future. It was only on 9th April, 2009 that I had gone in for angioplasty, after the Escorts Heart Institute and Research Centre, New Delhi declared a blockage in two of my arteries like the one, my wife had. Since, Angioplasty done on me actually went on absolutely fine and I was discharged from the Hospital on April 11, 2009. One day I took my normal dinner and medicines as per Doctor’s advice and started chatting with my wife as usual but all of a sudden found myself restless followed by sever pain in the chest which kept on increasing. Taking it to be a stomach upset, I tried churan and took a stroll but the pain became unbearable and I started crying, ‘Om, Hari-om’ unconsciously and could sense something ‘amiss’ on way to Kalra Hospital in the car and felt the breathlessness as per the final will of God. We reached the Emergency ward of Kalra Hospital, where the Doctors declared my condition to be pretty serious and shifted me to the ‘Heart Command’. At home, my wife was praying to God and weeping profusely, even though she was being told by the family members that the position is under control and I will be OK soon. But, from the day she wished me happy birthday on April 15, she was constantly praying to ‘SAI BABA’ and pleading with Him to take her life and save

mine after I left for the hospital at night. All those who saw her also fell in line with her and prayed for my life and sympathized with her by joining her prayers to Baba. Miracles do happen and her prayers are a living example of being accepted by Him. The moment, my vomiting process stopped, she started vomiting. She was taken to a local Doctor who administered the anti doses but her condition deteriorated and had to be shifted in the same Heart Command on April 21, wherefrom I had been shifted to a room by now. See the irony and the will of the God, both of us admitted in the same hospital, unable to see each other but for the one Atman and two bodies. While she was admitted on April 21, I was to be discharged on April 22 with specific instructions not to move or exert. Though her condition started deteriorating, I was not allowed to see her. She had developed severe infection in the body and no medicine or dialysis could help in clearing the infection from her body. Her chances of survival are remote, was the overall opinion of all the experts. Two bodies with one soul, lying separately at Kalra Hospital and home were not allowed to meet and see each other face to face, though their souls had merged in each other. However, she desperately hankered to meet me at least once before she closes her eyes. While she waited for me anxiously, the signals were being received by me in the form of intuition, to break all the barriers and rush to her bedside. On Saturday, the 2nd May, 2009 I could not bear the separation because my intuition was constantly hammering me that some one is calling me and is waiting to leave her physical body which is not responding

to any treatment in spite of the fact that she was in best of hands. My inner voice was telling me time and again, ‘Rush, she is simply waiting for you’. My daughter managed to drive me to the hospital and arranged my meeting with her in a wheel chair in the ICU of the hospital, I rushed to the ICU where she was lying unconscious waiting anxiously to see me finally before she bids GOOD BYE. While seeing her condition, I kissed her face and opened her one of the eye lids. She opened both the eyes and smiled happily, as if she was waiting only for this sight to finally part with. This one minute SMILE on her face, with all the happiness of her life while physically seeing me, had never been seen by me in my 54 years of our marital life. This was a Divine Smile, blessed by Sai Baba who was always standing by her bedside while she used to chant JAI SAI RAM and that was the last and parting site of sacrifice, a true Indian wife is always known for. I was reminded of John Dryden, who says Sati Savitri was just a myth and man made story. Here is a miracle that happened right before my eyes. When I was struggling with life on my birthday on April 15, she was praying to SAI BABA to save my life and take her instead to which HE heard and healed. While I was saved after vomiting, she caught infection while vomiting which was never cured. If this is not an exchange of an Atman than what it is? All hats off to a modern Sati. God bless her soul and grant Moksha for ever. May her journey into the light be auspicious. O God, show me the way to repay back her sacrifice by doing some good, to the best of my knowledge and abilities, as a parting gift to my better half, my family, the society I live in. Jai Sai Ram.
