Sai Baba's Associates Abdul Baba Abdul Baba came to Shirdi in around 1890 from a poor family and through a fakir who received instructions in a dream to send him. Baba greeted him with the curious words “My crow has come”. He was a dedicated worker and it was he who cleaned the mosque, washed Baba’s clothes a n d collected water. H e swept t h e streets outside the mosque, lit the lamps in Lendi and obeyed Baba’s instructions to the letter. Baba took care of his welfare, and often had him reading aloud passages from the Koran. Bhagoji Shinde Bhagoji Shinde suffered from leprosy but this never deterred Baba from keeping him close by. Chandbhai And Baba Chandbhai, the headman of a village called Dhoopkhede (in Aurangabad, India), once lost his horse and was looking for it. Suddenly he heard a voice say “You look tired. Come here and rest a while”. He turned around and saw a young Fakir. The Fakir smiled at him and said “What are you looking for in this jungle, Chandbhai”. Chandbhai was surprised and he wondered how the Fakir knew his name. Slowly, he said “I have lost my horse. I have looked for it everywhere, but cannot find it”. The Fakir told him to look behind a clump of trees near Nallah. Chandbhai was pleasantly surprised to find his horse grazing peacefully behind those trees. He thanked the Fakir and asked his name. The Fakir said “some people call me Sai Baba.” Sai Baba then invited Chandbhai to have a smoke with him. He got the pipe ready, but there was no fire to light it with. Sai Baba thrust a pair of tongs into the ground and brought out a burning coal. Chandbhai was wonderstruck. He thought “this is no ordinary person” and invited Baba to come to his house and be his guest for a few days. Next day Baba went to Chandbhai’s house and found everybody in a very joyful mood and festivities going on all around. He found that Chandbhai’s wife’s nephew was getting married. The bride was from Shirdi and the marriage party

was going to Shirdi. Chandbhai invited Baba to accompany the marriage party to Shirdi. At Shirdi they camped in a field next to Khandoba’s temple. After the wedding, Sai Baba stayed back at Shirdi. At first He lived under a neem tree and begged for food whenever He needed it. He then went to Khandoba’s temple, intending to stay there, but the temple priest met Him at the entrance and told him to go to the mosque. That is how Baba, started staying at the Mosque which was later called Dwarkamayi. Baba preached at Shirdi all His life and performed numerous miracles to convince people that God exists. He healed people’s diseases, provided moral and material comfort to his devotees. Baba helped bring Unity and Harmony between all communities. He said that God is one, but called by different names. He said follow your own religion and seek the truth. One day a rich millionaire named Booty came to Sai Baba and said he was going to construct a stone building. Baba helped him plan the building. Before the building was completed Baba fell very ill. On the 15th of October 1918, He breathed His last. His last wish was to be buried in Booty’s building. Booty’s stone building came to be known as the Samadhi Mandir. Shri Sai Baba was buried here and a beautiful shrine was built over it. To this day, people flock to Shirdi to pay homage to Shri Sai Baba. Om Sairam! -Anitha, Australia

Baba's Leela before 1918 Dr. Talvailkar was a devotee of Baba. On one of his visits to Shirdi, Baba blessed him and gave him Udi, This Udi he preserved carefully. He began his practice in Indore and would see patients only after doing Baba's puja. He became famous as he cured many serious patients. One day a serious patient came for treatmen to him as a last resort. Many a doctor had treated him and failed. The patient was in the terminal stage, but his relatives had pinned their hopes on doctor Talvailkar He pacified the relatives and gave the patient some medicine. Then he prayed to Baba. Merciful Sai I do not know how to thank my Sadguru Sainath. I had resigned from my job recently owing to unbearable pressure and non-cooperation from my colleagues in office. This I did before getting another offer. My wife too was undergoing tremendous pressure in office where she worked. She had undergone a neuro surgery last year and after that, she was unable to take too much work pressures. Both of us were very anxious about our future. We started looking out for jobs. I was promised job elsewhere but somehow it did not happen so far. I have been out of job for past 2 months. My wife has just resigned and tomorrow is her last day in present job. At this juncture, I was daily reading Satcharita and going to Shirdi Sai Mandir almost everyday. Both of us were under tension but we never gave up. We knew our Sai would protect us. Today, Thursday, my wife has good news that she is getting another job. And I got information that my job will be up shortly. All this is because of our unswerving faith in SAIBABA, our GOD. Our belief in Sadguru has increased manifold and we are sure He will always bless us and be merciful to us. Ramesh

Baba fulfills Our Wishes Myself, my brother and my parents are staunch devotees of Baba. There have been many incidents of Baba’s grace which have been experienced by me. I would like to share an incident which my mother experienced recently. Through this article I would also appreciate and thank my mother for her sincere devotion to Baba by following what Baba preached. We too are being benefited by her sincere genuine devotion and prayers my mother is a regular visitor to Baba’s Temple. She visits temple twice daily (in Noida). It was in 2004, the sthapna diwas of Baba’s Temple. It was a day of festivities starting with the mangal snan of Baba with milk. My mother also took a packet of milk for this occasion. So she asked the maid who brings milk daily in the morning to bring the milk little early that day so that she could reach temple in time. The maid took sometime to come back and around 6.30 am she did not return. My mother started

moving towards temple, thinking she might get late for the mangal snan. While walking she was all the time praying to Baba to fulfill her wish to offer milk to Him. When she reached outside the temple a car stopped besides her and a lady with a milk packet in her hand took out her hand out of the car and asked my mother to offer it to Sai Baba. The car then fled off. My mother was spell bound. She had tears in her eyes. Baba had fulfilled her desire. How did the woman know that my mother was going to Sai temple? Baba once again proved that He who haves Him whole heartedly definitely gets response from Him. He is always by our side. He can take any form and appear before the devotees and fulfill their wishes. Baba has made me write this article and I dedicate this article to my late father Shri M.M. Mehta. Whom I love a lot and whose presence I still and will always feel. -Raj Mehta, Rohini

Readers Views Dear Editor, I would like to thank Anju Ji for their article on Shirdi Sai Dham, in Shri Sai Sumiran Times in the month of April’09. After reading the article I ordered a copy of the same, Sai Vision Arts sent the DVD at my residence and I was blessed to have an opportunity to see a superb piece of work on Sai Baba and His Shirdi. Though Baba is not there in physical form now, yet Shirdi as a whole – physical, metaphysical or ethereal – is an embodiment of Shri Sai. Shirdi is Kasturi of BABA. In fact, people worshipp Him and running down to Shirdi have such an enlightening and overwhelming experience of BABA’s presence there. This documentary film is like a live invitation to Shirdi. I must say that the documentary has chosen just the right way and style of narrating and has done full justice to the historical facts. The quality of the work as I said earlier is just Superb. Voice over by Harish Bhimani is very mesmerizing and Bhajans are pleasant and soothing with meaningful lyrics I am sure it will please and make an indelible impression on all the Sai Devotees and other viewers of this gospel. Thanks a ton. May Almighty Shower His Grace on all of you. Jai Sai Ram Rakesh Ph- 9350892014

Baba Helped My Prayers Being a devotee of Sai-Baba I would like to share an experience that how Baba responded my deep hearted appeal. We are residents of Ranchi living in joint family & have faith in Baba. My nephew who had passed out in year 2008 from B.I.T and obtained a degree in B.C.A. After he completed his degree he got an offer from Satyam Computers (Hydrabad) but unfortunately he was not confirm as company declare him as black-listed. Despite of such problem my nephew did not loose his patience & kept on preparing for M.C.A. Since his father i.e my elder brother who got retired from the Service & was not in position to further afford expenses for M.C.A. So assessing the circumstances I contacted one of my acquainted fellow who is also Sai devotee, who is also in I.T sector to arrange a job for my Nephew. Within a couple of days, with the grace of Sai Nath he was called to join in a I.T based company of Mumbai. After hearing this news the whole family was very delighted. On 11th May 2009 my nephew finally reported on his duty at Patna which is over-night journey from our place. This was his first job & first time he remained off from his native place & therefore he felt little uncomfortable to accustomed with new environment & new place. On 20th May 2009 my nephew suddenly got a

facial paralytic attack at his work place. With same critical condition he managed to come at his house & immediately we admitted him in the nearby Shirdi Sai Hospital. Doctor after proper examination & diagnosis arranged all medical facilities. It is worthwhile to mention that since year 2005 in the morning I am regularly visiting Sai Temple at our locality & perform morning Abhishek & Aarti along with other Sai Devotees. The day when my Nephew return back from Patna & by the time he was admitted in Hospital my elder brother came to Baba temple merely on pretext to collect bike keys from me. He came at the time when I was performing abhishek of Baba. Immediately I prayed to SatGuru that a person never approached you directly has some grievances & hence you are Perfect Master shall redress his appeal. After couples of days a miracle happen that Company reimbursed Rs.40,000/- to my nephew, inspite of the fact the he had joined only 7 days back and was not even issued appointment letter & company’s top level Management had even seen his face. Moreover after this Kripa my nephew’s moral was boost-up & thus his devotion towards Baba can not be explained. With the grace of Sai Nath he is now recovering fast & is going to resume his duty soon. SAT GURU SAI NATH MAHARAJ KI JAI Ujjal De, ( RANCHI )

Racitation of Amritwani Sairam to all of you and brothers and sisters devotees. I reguraly recite amritwani paath with Veena Didi every thursday. Last year I had been suffering from excruciating pain in my left foot near my ankle. According to doctors, it was some bone growth and some suggested

operation, whilst other said you have to learn to live with the pain. Even the physiotherapist said nearly the same thing, perhaps the pain can be lessened through the use of pain killers and some ultrasound from time to time. I did not want to listen to them and instead I

thought about Baba’s solution: nearly everyday I apply udi on my foot and swallow a little bit also. I continued reading chapters 11 and 15 from Sai Sat Charitra and do the recitation of amritvani nearly every Thursday with the result that the pain is nearly gone (98%), and I can walk ok now without feeling that permanent pain. Jai Lord Sainath, thanks to His leelas, he has given me proof of the value of udi. We are nothing without him. I wanted to share this leela with all of you. Hari Om Tat Sat and OMSAIRAM. Contd. from page 1 would play and romp together, with Tatya climbing on Baba’s back and sitting in his lap. Being so close to Baba afforded him priviledges that few had. Only he and Mahalsapati were allowed to sleep with Baba in the mosque and this he did for 14 years until his father died and family responsibilities compelled him to go home. Laxmibai Shinde Laxmibai Shinde was one of Baba’s very close devotees and was the only w o m a n who was allowed into the mosque when the curtain was down. This curtain acted like a door and screened the upper part of the mosque. She regularly prepared food for Baba and served him with great love and devotion. Every day Baba used to give her four rupees and just before he passed away he gave nine rupees which are thought to symbolise the nine characteristics of a good devotee. Hari Sitaram Dixit (alias Kakasaheb Dixit) Kakasaheb Dixit was an

Sai Baba's Associates influencial lawyer, active in public life who was persuaded to visit Sai Baba in 1909 by his friend Nana Chandorkar. He came originally to get a cure for his leg which had been injured w h i l e studying i n London, but soon forgot the reason exclaiming that the handicap of his leg was nothing compared to the limitations of his mind! Dixit was so struck by his first darshan with Baba that he immediately began plans to construct a building which after receiving Baba’s blessing he completed in early 1911. Known as Dixit Wada, this building was to provide a valuable resting place for various visiting devotees and in which he settled in a small room on the first floor. MadhavRao Deshpande (Shyama) Shyama was among Baba’s most intimate devotees, and acted like his personal secretary. Baba once told Shyama that they had been together for 72 generations.

His parents had moved to Shirdi f r o m Nimon (5 kilometres away) when he was only two. He became a school teacher in a room next door to the mosque. There was a small window in the this room which overlooked the mosque and Shyama used to watch Baba through it soon realising Baba’s remarkable powers and so kindling his faith. Bhagat Mahalsapati Mahalsapati w a s t h e priest of the Khandoba Temple on the edge of the village of Shirdi at the time that Sri Sai Baba was said to have first arrived there. It was he who hailed the young man, ‘Ao Sai!’ (welcome saint) thus giving him the beloved name. When Baba asked him if he might stay in the

temple, Mahalsapati refused, fearing that he was a Muslim and directed him to stay in the run down mosque in the village. He was soon to recognise the greatness of the young sage and thereafter became one of his greatest devotees, serving him with love and devotion for the rest of his life. Nanasaheb Chandorkar Nana Chandorkar was one of Baba’s most prominent devotees. Born of well respected parents in Kalyan, Maharashtra, he rose at a young age to the post of Deputy Collector. He had t h e distinction of being one of the very few disciples that Baba directly called to his side. Baba was not normally enthralled with men of high position, but in Chandorkar’s case he could see that there was an old connection. Being an orthodox Hindu

slowed his progress under Baba’s care, but once convinced of Baba’s greatness, he became one of the most ardent devotees who encouraged many others to come to Shirdi. G. S. Khaparde (Dadsaheb Khaparde) Dadasaheb Khaparde was an influencial advocate of Amraoti in Maharashtra taking an active part in public life as a great orator and member of the Legislative Assembly. He first came t o Shirdi i n December 1910 and it was Sri S a i Baba who drew him out of that life and onto the spiritual path. In his diary he wrote,” Sri Sai Baba’s smile was so charming that one could wait a lifetime in Shirdi for a glimpse of that bewitching smile”. He is immortalised in the minds of Sai devotees because of the wonderful diary that he left behind in which he habitually recorded the day’s happenings and which have been published as the Shirdi Diary.
