Senator Jim Webb 248 Russell Senate Office Building Washington, DC 20510 September 2nd, 2009 Senator Webb, I am writing to advise you of my opposition to the various plans before Congress to allow the Federal government the power to control the health care market. Federal involvement in such programs as Medicare and Medicaid contribute to the very problems that Congress now proposes to fix with yet even more Federal intervention. These proposals have no controlling Constitutional authority (nor their above named predecessors). Even if I would concede that they did, there is no logic in how they will control costs and not add to the Federal Deficit. I am a young man and while I have compassion for those without insurance, I can not abide Unconstitutional and fiscally irresponsible programs that will saddle our nation with debt and further erode our rich national heritage of community support for those unable to provide for themselves. I urge you to support reforms that will allow individuals to make choices that will lead to savings and efficiencies in health care, such as granting individuals the same tax incentives as businesses for providing health insurance. Such a policy would have the effect of creating portability for plans and allow individuals to separate their insurance from their ability to be employed. Ultimately, the current proposals will do little but grow the power of the Federal government, while providing mediocre and politically rationed health care. You have been silent on your ultimate decision and have not made yourself available to the citizens of the Commonwealth so that we might ascertain your thoughts. If you are not able to oppose these bills, I will do my best to oppose you and actively seek out a candidate to support for the Senate seat you currently hold.

Sincerely, ^ Whit Sours
