Kindergarten Students will explore the question, “How do we make a moving pinball change direction?” Students are learning about different forces and directions. They will understand what forces will cause a pinball to change direction in a pinball machine. The purpose of this chapter is for students to learn that a moving object can change direction when either a moving or a still object exerts a force on it.
First Grade First Graders have been investigating light. They have learned how to make dark areas and bright areas by making shadows. The purpose of this chapter is for students to figure out that different amounts of light observed on a surface are caused by different amounts of light passing through materials. The goal is to make different shapes for a background for a puppet show.
Second Grade Second Graders are working toward a goal of making a new recipe for glue. The purpose of this chapter is for students to understand that different materials have different properties and that there is a relationship between the properties of materials and their uses; to gain experience observing and testing materials and making evidence-based arguments; and to introduce the idea of cause and effect.
