Sunport Science Museum
Sunport’s first mayor, Ms. Elaine Diver, founded the Sunport Science Museum in 1965. Because of her generosity and commitment we have one of the finest science museums in Florida. On the day of the dedication, Ms. Diver offered this statement: It is my dream that the Sunport Science Museum will not only bring culture into our community but also enhance our children’s education. Today we have made a commitment to provide a museum that will foster growth in our children and ourselves.1 The hours of operation are: The Sunport Science Museum has five departments and ten permanent exhibits. The Solid Earth department contains the following exhibits: • Earth’s Interior • Atmosphere and Weather The Secrets of the Deep department contains the following exhibits: • Oceans • Lakes, Rivers, and Streams The Why Things Happen department contains the following exhibits: • Physics • Earthquakes and Tidal Waves The All About Me department contains the following exhibits: • The Human Body • The Human Mind The Mystery of Space department contains the following exhibits: • Stars and Galaxies • Our Solar System 1
