Bonneville Primary School, Bonneville Gardens, Clapham, London. How we used our Visualiser in Year 6 Subject: Science Learning objective: To know that several forces may act on one object Aim: The focus of the lesson was to draw scientific diagrams to show their understanding of the different forces acting on objects and the direction of these forces
How we used the Visualiser: A scientific diagram could be modelled using objects, arrows and vocabulary. Children could then use the objects to correct a range of scenarios. After completing their independent work, there was then the opportunity for children to present their ideas, key words or parts of a diagram could be annotated for further discussion and misconceptions of the topic could be corrected straight away. Benefits of the Visualiser: • Children could manipulate the objects and language cards to really show their understanding of changing variables – e.g. height of ramp, size of sail etc • Rather than moving 2D images on the board they were working with 3D objects which children enjoyed more and found easier • As well as reading their work to the class, the children were able to present their ideas visually. This reminded the children that the presentation of their work was important.
