Research Week 3

Knowing about autobiography help us to know what is the best writing style for our trip  to the Karen village. Doing research about the advantages and disadvantages of autobiography  give us choices to see what will best suit the writing style we need to use .  Autobiography is the work that an author writes about his/her own life describing the  climax or golden time/events that happen in his/her life. Autobiography can be written in  many forms from writing for his/her own selfor for publication in a formal book length. It  needs to be based or about a true event that has happened in the author’s perspective. “An  autobiography may be placed into one of four very broad types: thematic, religious, intellectual,  and fictionalized” (The Editors, 2018).  Autobiography needs to always be written in first person, which is the author’s point of  view. Narration will always be a part of the story. It can come in all kinds of form, such as a  poem, a short story, or a novel, not just a book (C, O, D, 2016).   Autobiography is used more than just to describe or share the author’s perspective of  events that have occurred in his/her life. One advantage of autobiography is that it can be used  to help a reader be able to relate or see the events in the author’s point of view and describe or  explain the effect on their his/her from the events. The autobiography may describe a historical  event where the author was in or a part of the event. This can be an autobiography of a soldier  in a World War or commoners in the French Revolution (James, 2018). Another advantage of  autobiography is that it allows the reader to relate to or be in the author’s point of view. If the  autobiography is from a historical person, it can make the reader understand the reasons  behind some decisions in the past (James, 2018).  However, autobiography also has a disadvantage because there is bias about how the  author sees things. While it includes many facts, each statement was only from the author’s  point of view, which sometimes can lead to a misunderstanding of the historical event.  Another disadvantage is that “all autobiographical writers face the possibility that future  generations may judge them from a different perspective than expected” (James, 2018).  From doing this research and comparing it to other writing techniques, we can decide  which styles to use based on the purpose we want.
