Description Routes and Camp locations dependent on condition of group and weather. The area provides opportunity for ascents of multiple 2000m peaks (10 in total) with high Bivouaks but also way marked low-level routes which provide alternatives for bad weather days. In case of severe weather or emergencies there are three DNT huts in the area (locations indicated in margins, distances given are approximate from edge of map area scanned. All huts lie on well marked and signed DNT paths). The main route described aims to take in a number of the 2000m peaks with Bivouaks at around 1300-1400m (vegetation line runs at around 1400m). A brief description of the route follows: Day 1: Mysuseter to Rondvasbu Hytta along grit road and ascent into Rondholet. Bivouak around 1400- 1470m. Low Level Alternative: Avoid ascent and camp in Illmanndalen. Day 2: DNT route Vinjeronden (2044m), Rondslottet (2178m). Bivouak Storbotn/ outfall at approx 1330m. Alternatively traverse west of DNT path to Bivouak south of DNT route over summit Langglupdalen pass . Low Level Alternative: Illmanndalen to Langglupbekken via DNT Bjornhollia Hyta Day 3: Traverse Hogronden (2118m) to Digerronden (2016m) via Midtronden (2060m). Ascent Hogronden either via DNT route or scree slope depending on conditions underfoot. Descent Digerronden via Salen. Camp Bergdalstjonne. Low Level Alternative: Over Langglupdalen to Bergedalen/Doralen Day 4: Ascent Veslesmeden (2015m) via ridge SE of Tjonnbotn. Traverse ridge to Storsmeden (2016m) conditions permitting. Descent into Kaldekkbotn via disused DNT route. Contour via Vesleranden (1473m) to Randen (1397m) to Bivouak on South slope. Options to traverse of ridge to Steet (1794m), Hogbeitet (180m), Ljosabelgen (1948m) and Brakdalsbelgen (1915m) with several opportunities for descent. Alternative camp after full traverse in Brakdalen above DNT Peer Gynt Hytta. Low Level Alternative: Old DNT route Langholet to Kaldbekkbotn descent to Rondvasbu.. Day 5: Walk out to Mysuseter.

Stats Approximate distances, heights gained and heights lost are listed in the following table. Figures are indicative and are based on an earlier version of the route. Some slight modifications can be made to shorten the distance travelled but climb and descents should remain about the same. Day 1 Day 2 Day 3 Day 4 Day 5 Total

Climb (m) 620 1118 1560 1790 0 5088

Descent (m) 0 -1280 -1680 -1870 -250 -5080

Distance (m) 11000 10700 15100 16950 9500 63250

Comparison with the stats from Previous trips is made in the following table (Stats for Switzerland have not been produced). Notwithstanding the fact that the Rondane trip comprises an extra day the comparison reveals the plan to be ambitious! Changes will be made according to group feeling on the ground. Particularly on days 2 and 4 opportunities for early descent are avialable. Cairngorms Lakes Rondane
