Chapter 1 INTRODUCTION

The students today are having a new course which is the practical research. Research is searching for a theory, for testing theory for problem solving. A problem was identified and it needs solution or improvement. It is a systematic controlled, empirical, and critical investigation of hypothetical propositions about the presumed relations among natural phenomenon. It is also a systematic collection and interpretation of data to illuminate, describe or explain new facts and relationships (Treece, 2002) ( observation shouldn’t have an author) Making an academic paper is not uncommon for some. In the University of United States of America, writing an academic paper for the first time can be a real headache. Students may struggle with writer’s block, be unfamiliar with how to format the paper, encounter unclear English expressions and run into difficultly structuring the paper, to name a few common problems. In addition, this problems more emphasis with the case of Francis Dolan, who died by suicide due to severe depression, five years after he started working as postdoctoral researcher at the Dublin institute for advanced studies (DIAS) in Ireland (Rosten, 2017). The aim of education is the production of active wisdom. Thus, engaging in research makes one a partner in the creation of knowledge. Institutions have been challenged to involve students in hands-on research experiences to enhance their learning. (Shamai 2002). Institutions have been challenged to involve students in handson experiences to enhance their learning. For most students, hands-on experiences with

their peers provide the best learning tools. The essence of research to senior high schools is the supportive, encouraging, and intellectual partnership among students and between students and their faculty mentor through which they apply knowledge gained in the classroom to new questions and problems. Essentially, senior high school students research is important and popular for the following reasons: (a) to integrate young scholars in the community of learning; (b) to motivate senior high schools to become independent thinkers; (c) to ensure that research experience be a necessity and; (d) to prepare students for graduate programs . In research classes, teachers promote student’s learning to become scholars and develop understanding that scholarship is creating new knowledge. To attain the goals of senior high school research, student researchers are engaged in consulting experts, applying for grants presenting conference papers, writing for publications, participating in research clubs, and networking o collaborating with peer mentors or faculty mentors. These research activities require support, such as mentoring, guidance, orientation and training, good infrastructure and resources, and the psychological, social, and political aspects of support for students research involvement. Through the adequate support for their research activities, both extrinsic and intrinsic benefits are gained by the young scholars.( too lengthy, chunk your paragraph.. and put all your authors after the paragraph, not in the middle.. okay ) (what specific part of the asia?)Senior High Students all over Asia who engaged in the research also had to go through the rigorous process of conceptualizing the problem: selecting, organizing, and documenting the related literature and studies. Selecting the research method and sampling techniques, gathering and treating the data, generalizing the results or findings and disseminating the research output. Challenge was one of the

best things experienced by the students. When one faces challenge, they learn, grows, and discovers truths and themselves (Wade, 2004). Good attributes of the research advisor and students and the quality of the mentoring relationship enhanced the completion of the student’s research. Effective mentoring relationships were characterized by attributes such as mutual respect, caring, accessibility, compatibility, and support. Moreover, advisors is the key to link in the development of undergraduate research. These advisors can advocate for administrative support, recruit faculty to provide undergraduate research opportunities with promising students, source out funding for the undergraduate researchers, and assist in nurturing students through the process. Moreover, here in the Philippines, Edwin Long, a student of Bulacan State University stated his experiences in research during his college years. He stated that research process has not been the easiest and there were many troubles that he had experienced. During the research process it would include trying to find books related to the topic, having a problem reading and understanding many articles based on the mass amount of data included in the journals. As for finding books, sometimes the topics that being researching are not covered well in books, Perhaps, the topic is too new for books to be published in that area. Given the ease of locating scholarly journal articles and reliable reports on-line, sometimes it is best not to even worry about finding a book. Sometimes the process of taking notes on an article is what works best to help understand the article. It takes time to take notes on articles, putting the author’s ideas in to own words (Edwin, 2011).

In the province of Davao Del Norte, particularly in Municipality of Kapalong, a student of Maryknoll High School of Maniki Inc, Charles who already undergone research making, started his experiences and challenges during the process of making. According to him, research writings is really never an easy task and it is like a roller coaster ride because there are many downs and few ups. In addition, research to him is not like a typical school project, those typical experiences like having sleepless nights, misunderstanding within the group, sacrificing time, effort, energy and money and lastly giving task to the group mates with knowing that in the end, you will be the one who will work for it. He even sacrificed cutting classes in other subjects. Even so, despite of the negative experiences and challenges dealing with research, he still managed to think positively. We have read several studies that about research writing experiences, however, we have not across any study which dealt on research writing experiences in approach just like the study that we will undertake. Therefore, this fills in the research gap and considering the contribution provided to the beneficiaries of the study, we considered this qualitative study of social relevance. Moreover, we can present new knowledge in the tertiary schools especially the current curriculum has the research and could offer practical methodologies in addressing this issue effectively and eventually provide intervention program.

Purpose of the Study The purpose of this study is to provide a clear, specific argument that will serve as a guide to the reader, so he or she knows what to expect. can be use for farther

understanding of how things work or even figure out something you had always needed to know and to understand and explore of Senior High students of Maryknoll High School of Maniki towards in making research paper. Hence, this study will be focusing on the experience of the students upon dealing with it, specifically their difficulties and fortitude towards research making. This study will be explaining and identifying the problem than to suggest how to address the issue of negative perspective towards research paper in Senior High School. As a qualitative study applying this kind of approach, relying upon the gathered data is not enough to move into conclusion. Thus, undergoing thorough inquiries to obtain better analysis in broaden the gauge of knowledge about the difficulties of the students in dealing research making. Thus, this study will be giving an emphasis and context with evidence and data about the Senior High School students, in their experience in fortitude towards research making. Research Questions The following research question are formulated to guide the study. 1. What are the experiences on student in making researches? 2. How do these students cope with the challenges in making researches? 3. What are the insights of students in making researches? Theoretical Lens This study is based on the concept of Discovery Learning Theory of Jerome Bruner (1964) in which researches may not just search and discover facts information but they

also learn at the same time throughout the process. In discovery learning theory, it also helps to discover the different individual experiences in research writing and also researcher may not just learn but also know how to interact with the world by exploring and manipulating objects, wrestling with questions and controversies to search and discover individual experiences about research writing. In support to the theory above, cooperative learning also has the connection with our study in which researchers able build a good relationship among the members and build cooperation in order for the success of the study. Each member must allocate plenty of time and effort to do the individual assigned task. In cooperative learning, the collaboration of members is not just being build but also the good relation among members (Salandanan, 2016). Moreover, author David Kolbs in his Experiential Learning Theory highlighted that learning is the process where knowledge is created through the transformation of experiences. This theory also has the connection in our study where in it implies the different research writing experiences of the students that they will able to reflect, learn and understand by the researchers. Kolb emphasizes the central role that experience plays in the learning process such as in research writing (Kolbs,1984).

It doesn’t support your study. Just look for a proposition.

Significance of the Study In conducting this qualitative research on the experiences of the students of Maryknoll High School of Maniki towards a research paper, we provide significant and beneficial information for some relevant reason. Research result will serve as reference for the people and researchers which is the foundation for knowledge that makes possible innovation that pertains to strategies and techniques that can help to the future researchers. To the Maryknoll High school of Maniki, this could be serve as guide and foundation of a new knowledge compromising quality of teaching and learning. Moreover, it could also lead to the Teachers who have an avenue to address the needs of their learners and find ways to support them to cope and performed well in the class and to promote high-quality teaching, of the teachers. This could also be beneficial reference for students that they will improve the quality of how they can overcome the struggle that they face and that may effect to their learnings aptitude. This could supply as basis that may answer the needs of the learners. This could also beneficial for the Future researchers who will take the same case who wanted to discover more to the deep-seated meaning of the study and the future researchers will also know what to expect if they will be having their research writing. Through this, future researchers will have reflective view point of how their decisions and actions contribute on how they would wrestle their way towards their future career. In general, it can serve as a deep-seated psychological aspect that can provide explanations of the reasons.

Definition of Terms In most studies, the definition of key concepts and ideas are presented with technical terms. Consequently, these terms may help the readers understand more about this study. This terms given below were
