REQUEST OF MARATHON STREET CLOSURE RE: LAUSD PROJECT 1 CENTRAL REGION ELEMENTARY SCHOOL # I 4 CONSTRUCTION

This Petition is respectfully presented to you requesting your approval to close a portion of Marathon Street related to the above mentioned construction. We understand that construction of Central Region Elementary School # I 4 is being now delayed until a decision is reached to close the Marathon Street. We have waited three long years for LAUSD and our community to reach a final agreement on site selection. In the process 50 homes of long time area residents have been taken away along with numerous families of two rental buildings dispersed and facing higher rental cost. Our children are entitled to attend a school in their own neighborhood, and it is the responsibility of LAUSD to provide this for our children. We hope you can endorse this request and allow the construction of this much needed school. Please approve the closing of Marathon Street. L..

This is a great opportunity to demonstrate that a different kind of government is being created, one that is fiscally responsible and socially progressive and specifically a government of outstanding leaders who understand that we can no longer afford to leave thousands of young people behind without a high school education. This school will be the bridge to that. It is time to empower educators and parents and to give local leaders as well as communities a strong voice to benefit all who are involved in this matter.
