Reflective writting N1: the school. Daniel Pasten Muñoz. I am attending to my VISE II in a school located in curauma, called “Nueva era siglo XXI”. I’m in a 4 ½ class, wich has a total of 26 students. Most of these students, live nearby the school, in curauma. This is a good place to be, it’s safe, it has good security in the streets, and most of people who lives here have a good economical situation. The social enviroment in the school is very good, most of kids have a good situation, and most of their families must have a good socio economic level. During the classes, i have noticed that most of them are respectul, and have a fine behaviour inside the classrom, and also they always show a good disposition with me, and with my guide teacher. I think this happens because, most of these students are partially mature, they have about 17 or 18 years old. But also, it’s a very important factor the fact that they live their school life in a very good neighbourhood, and also the school has everything they could need for their learning process; enough clasrooms, casino, technology, enough teachers, etc... All of this is reflected in their final behaviour, and also in their grades. Most of the students in my class, have good grades in all subjects, not only at english. Anyway, in the particular case of english, there are a lot of kids that have a fine level of understanding, and also of speaking, so the class advance in a very fast way, and their skills can be developed both for the ones who have good grades, and for the ones who find difficult to learn this language. . This has been incredibly positive for me as a learner, because in the last vise i had a bad experience, but now i’m meeting the bright side of this, always knowing that not in every school i will have this situation. Here they have everything for a proper learning process, and it’s quite easy to notice the difference between the first vise and the second, and here takes place my biggest question. The most important thing i ask to myself in this reflection, is why in the poor schools, wich have students of social risk, and practically no money, the educational level must be so bad. Because i know money isn’t the solution for having a decent education. This is a big problem of our sistem, that can only be solved by taking conciousness about the importance of educating al sectors in our society. A lots of times the enviroment of the students won’t be the best, and this will obviously affect them. It’s hard for everyone in a stablishment when there are no enough classrooms, when there is no equipment to work, when there are no good profesionals working. But changing the disposition for teaching, and starting to have a better relationship with the students, could be a decisive step, and they will certainly notice this. The first thing we could do as teachers, is to give always the best of ourselves and take everything we can to make a good enviroment for the students, make them feel comfortable, and make them understand that they can be as good as students are in stablishments with good economic situation.
