RATIONAL EXPRESSIONS!!! BY: James, Jessica, Mike
Introduction To Rational Expression • A rational expression in an algebraic expression of the for (P/Q) where P and Q are simpler expressions (usually polynomials), and the denominator Q is not zero.
Another way to look at it • The quotient of two integers (with
the denominator that is not 0) is called a rational number. • There for the quotient of two polynomials with a denominator that does not equal zero is a RATIONAL EXPRESSION!!
Steps to Simplify a Rational Expression • Factor the Numerator and
denominator of the rational expression • Find the Values of the variable of which the expression is undefined • Write the rational expression in lowest form!!
A break from serious stuff… (Laugh)(Out)(Loud) =(LOL)
Operations • Here are
examples of each operation
Example of different R.E… x-1 1. ------x+2 x+1 2. --------------(x + 2)(x - 3) 1 3. -------x2 + 1 x2 + 4 4. -------------x3 + 2x2 - 3x
