RACISM In this project you are going to:
Explore the concepts of race and racism Learn some historical events related with these topics Learn to write a biography Practice your oral skills Practice reading and writing
RACE DOES NOT NECESSARILY MEAN RACISM. In pairs, answer these questions: 1-What is race? Write a definition
2-How many ethnics are humans divided in? What is the main geographical distribution of each racial group? 3-What are the characteristics of each race?
BUT UNFORTUNATELY, BELONGING TO A DIFFERENT RACE HAS BEEN A SOURCE OF DISCRIMINATION.THIS IS CALLED RACISM. 1-Find the definition of racism
2-Some historical mass crimes carried out in the name of racism include: -the extermination of Jews, gipsies and disabled people by the German Nazis in World War II -the racist regime of Apartheid in South Africa -the segregation laws for black people in the USA
Choose ONE historical event. Find information about it, with pictures if possible and write a power point presentation or poster. 3- ORAL :Tell the class the historical event you have studied.
FREEDOM FIGHTERS Some people who fought against racial discrimination were Rosa Parks, The Nine Children of Little Rock High, and Nelson Mandela. Find out information about them and prepare a biography. 3-Do you know someone (schoolmate, neighbour etc) who belongs to a different ethnical group ? Interview him/her.
