Week4: The summary of educational statistics

Introduction: "Schools have been opened regardless; the important thing is that there should be education, even under the shadow of trees" , The starting of developing education achieved after this sentence which Sultan Qaboos said. Education is one of important aspects that should be concern on to develop the country and achieve the progress. It can produce the important thing which any country should have to be strong , this thing is human cadres.

The summary of the statistics :

Schools: In the beginning , the education converted form traditional to systematic education and start with three schools which are one in Salalah and tow in Muscat. Then the number of schools increased to become 909 school in 2000. But the increasing is follow to be 1052 school in 2008. The increasing in Omani schools indicates to quantitative development that Oman focus on more than qualitative development. Then the focusing in qualitative development was start when types of schools in Oman appear in education. These types are : Public schools, special education, schools having special education classes, private schools , adult education centers and literacy centers. Student:

About the students, the number of boys was 909 distributed in the three countries and there is no girl study in school at that time. An greet development happened in Oman change this number of students to be 528357 students in 2000 and 257071 of them were girls. The number reached to 553056 in 2008 and this number still increase. This huge change in the number of students means to increasing the awareness between Omani people forward education development. Also, that indicate to the number of population in Oman which be increased. But still the number of girls is less than number of boys because of National attributes which some people have. These traditions prevent girls from completing studying although girls like study rather than boys so the level of girls is more than boys in grades. Because of the number of boys , the number of boys schools are more then schools of girls. Teachers: In 1977, there were 2553 " Omanis and non-Omanis" teachers and this number increased to be 37500 in 2005 and 41989 in 2008. There is 11% of teachers are expat opposite 89% Omani teachers in basic education and there is 18% of teachers are expat opposite 82% Omani teachers in general education. That means the number of Omanis worker increase because Omanis graduated from universities and collages. About technique major, there is no expat and all the teachers are Omani.

Percentage of public education schools by shift and type of education: The Percentage of public education schools in the morning was increased to be 90% opposite 10% of schools in the evening. That leads to increase the number of studying hours.

There are tow types of public education that are more spread in Oman than others which are Basic and general education. Depending on the statistics of 2008, the Percentage of general education is 63% and the number of students who study in this type of education is 175147. In the other hand, the Percentage of Basic education is 37% and the number of students who study in this type of education is 282963. That means that the system of education start to direct to basic education by 37%. This percentage indicates to qualitative development in .education of Oman
