Dear Engineer,

Meet Your Expert Course Leader

As you know, as unreliability and unavailability of pumps can result

Professor Taha Aldoss is a Senior Associate Consultant with a number of training and consultation companies, specialising in pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, piping systems and valves. He graduated from Case Western Reserve University, USA in Mechanical Engineering and has worked with the Jordan Petroleum Refinery Company for a number of years as a maintenance and workshop engineer. As a consultant, he has worked on many industrial projects involving piping systems, valves, heat exchangers, and turbo-machinery. He currently teaches mechanical engineering courses in a number of universities and delivers technical courses in pumps, compressors, heat exchanger, and piping systems and valves for engineers and technicians in various industries, particularly for petrochemical companies in Saudi Arabia and in the Gulf region. Professor Aldoss has been awarded a number of prizes for his distinguished publications and research work. His awards include the Shoman prize and the Fulbright Fellowship. He has more than 60 publications in international journals and international conferences and also holds three patents.

in your organisation losing millions of dollars, you need to be able to select and operate higher performing pumps that reduce that risk. There is also a need to understand the technical advances coupled with changes in process management, and the new techniques and solutions which you can use to optimise reliability of your pumps To provide you and your colleagues with the most up-to-date knowledge in this arena, IIR is pleased to inform you of this highly beneficial course: Pumps. The first three days is aimed at individuals who need to know more about the basics of pumps, how they work and how best to select them. The last two days are for more experienced people who have the knowledge about pumps, but need to know how best to maintain them and get the best performance. This two-part course will first be running in Dubai, UAE, from 17 – 21 May 2009. Next, for your convenience, we will be running the course in Doha, Qatar, from 24 – 28 May 2009.

Pumps

Selection, Operation and Troubleshooting

Programme Introduction These two courses will detail the solutions and best practice procedures for selecting, operating and maintaining pumps. Pumps play an essential role in many industries with different types of pumps required for different applications. Pumps are rotating machinery running at high speeds and they are exposed to temperature variances as well as different flow pressures. Their operation is confined between the two flow limits - a low flow rate that might cause recirculation problems and a high flow rate where the pump can cavitate, causing very serious problems. Pump performance is affected by the variation in operating conditions. It is very important therefore to learn and understand how pumps work, select the right pumps and ensure the components work to the best capability. Selecting and specifying pumps correctly will save companies money and will minimise the day-to-day challenges and maintenance cost. Learning about the right troubleshooting techniques will improve maintenance processes and will lead to cost reduction reduction.
