Facilitated by: Ivor Reed, Management Consultant; Enrique Ugarte, Partner, Helmsman International Group

Facilitated by: Glen Morgan, Consultant, Experience Matters

About the workshop: In this workshop, Helmsman will work with participants to analyse more than 100 factors that drive project complexity. Participants will be given the opportunity to benchmark their own projects against some of Australia’s most complex initiatives. Undertaking this analysis is illuminating and invaluable as it uncovers multiple ‘hidden’ project risks that would not have been considered otherwise. Workshop participants will receive a complexity profile for their project which will provide clarity in determining which aspects of their project are likely to put the project at risk. Helmsman will discuss how these issues are managed by organisations and within industries where this level of complexity is common. About your workshop leaders: Ivor Reed has over 20 years of international project management experience working at board and senior management level. He has a broad range of experience in construction, business and technology project management across a range of business sectors and countries. Ivor spent several years at a senior level with a leading UK consulting firm and has advised organisations on improving project/portfolio governance to maximise value delivery across the business investment and project lifecycle. Enrique Ugarte has more than 10 years experience delivering change and improvement across a range of business issues and for a number of leading organisations. As a Partner of the Helmsman International Group, Enrique has consulted across a broad range of companies and industries to help build the capability they need to deliver some of Australia’s most complex and difficult initiatives. Enrique also works closely with government, academia and industry to design and deliver leading edge research relating to complex execution which is pragmatic and which can be implemented by Australian organisations to improve their execution capability.

About the workshop: With the push to open government and accountability, the ICT professional is expected to deliver projects and their ongoing maintenance within a complex information governance regime. Further, given the increasing role of digital information in investigations, discovery and litigation, ICT officers are part of a collaborative team that needs to ensure that government information assets are managed properly using the most appropriate technology. In this workshop, Glen will work with participants to develop a plan for managing digital information that aligns with business and statutory requirements. Participants will gain an understanding of their critical role in electronic document and records management and digital preservation and how these underpin managing knowledge assets in the public office itself and from a whole of government perspective. Discussions and activities will focus on: ƒƒ The various forms digital assets take, including separating the technology management of email from the knowledge and legal requirements depending on an email’s content ƒƒ Working collaboratively with records managers, other information professionals and business owners to achieve the best outcome for your public office ƒƒ The inhibitors and drivers to successful digital information management About your workshop leader: Glen Morgan recently joined Experience Matters as a Senior Consultant. Previously she was the Manager, Strategic Processes and Systems, NSW Treasury. Glen has extensive experience in strategic and operational management in the public and private sectors moving from technical roles in the building, construction and mining industries into information asset management. She has worked in a variety of agencies, often leading major information and business improvement projects. Glen’s multi-discipline background includes process reengineering, business intelligence, information governance, system implementation, strategy and business planning and full lifecycle management of complex and varied business improvement and change management projects.
