Larene A. Bowen Professional Development Plan Complete the chart below to plan your professional development over the next 2-3 years. Be sure your goals are specific and measureable. Goal #1: Learn more about the Cheyenne Culture.

Goal #2: I would like to learn sign language.

Goal #3: I would like to start working on getting a master’s degree in computer programming.

Rationale: Why did you choose this goal? How do you expect it to improve the outcomes of your future students?

I live in an area and work with many students from the Cheyenne culture. I believe that learning about their culture will help build better relationships and respectful attitude between the students and myself.

I chose this goal because there are two students in the Lame Deer school that are deaf, and I think that if I want to remain at the school it would be appropriate to prepare myself to be able to communicate with these students if they ever become part of my class. I would have a way to communicate and to teach these students. It could also help me to teach all the students a way to communicate with the deaf students as well.

End Date: By when do you expect to accomplish this goal?

It may take some time to complete this goal. I would expect to be completed by the end of 2021.

It would be smart for me to learn by the end of next year that way when the deaf student makes it into third grade.

I chose this goal because I would like to design games and activities on technology that would help the students in my classes to understand the concepts we learned in class. I know there are many online resources already available however the students will learn much faster if the scaffolding for the game was already in place and the game was specifically designed for that student. I also think that teaching the students skills they need to build games and design computer programs would help the students to prepare for the future. I do not expect to start this goal for a little while. I first need to focus on the other two goals and pay off some of the many loans I currently have first. I would like to begin first class before the end of 2024.

Summer of 2019- I could visit with Heidi Becker and have her help me to learn sign language in exchange for helping her prepare for the Praxis exam. She works with these deaf students teaching them sign language by learning from her it would benefit us both. May of 2019- I could buy books and read and study American Sign Language to try to teach myself.
