Professional Development Plan Complete the chart below to plan your professional development over the next 2-3 years. Be sure your goals are specific and measureable. Goal #1: Create an effective learning environment in new classroom.

Goal #2: Begin working on Maser’s Program in curriculum and instruction.

Goal #3: Create effective lesson plans throughout the year to meet standards and needs of kids.

Rationale: Why did you choose this goal? How do you expect it to improve the outcomes of your future students?

As a first year teacher, it is important to have an effective classroom set up in order to set myself up for success throughout the year.

My current school has team planning which makes the planning process much easier, however my school next year is in a different district that does not have team planning and we only meet with the curriculum specialist once per week.

End Date: By when do you expect to accomplish this goal?

Should be completed by the first day of school on August 1st, 2019 (ready the moment the kids come in so expectations are set high right away).

Since I am finishing my Bachelor’s in a few short weeks, I have thought long and hard about my educational journey and how I want to continue bettering myself for the sake of my students. Getting my Master’s in curriculum and instruction will absolutely help with ensuring I create effective lessons for my students now and in the future. The program is 18 months long so if I start it in late June, I will expect to be done in January of 2021.

Action Timeline: What steps will you take to complete this goal, and by when will you take them? Example: 1/31/18: Join AACTE

I started by meeting with my new principal to see the classroom, see what is already provided and create a class wish list that the school can provide. My next steps will be to seek advice from other fifth grade teachers on important things to consider in a classroom set up and begin putting things together in June (once keys to class are given).

I will set up a calendar to ensure I meet all important dates and due dates and use the material that I learn about when creating my own curriculum.

I will be attending meetings over the summer to learn the different curriculum that the school uses, as well as meeting with the curriculum specialist to create an effective first two weeks of lesson plans. I will then continue my planning every week when kids go to specials.

I am hoping to have mastered creating effective lesson plans that meet all the standards and kids needs by the end of the year in May 2020.

Resources: What resources are available to assist you in accomplishing your goal?

The principal, school district, fellow coworkers and online resources will help me to accomplish this goal.

The school that I am going to has a curriculum specialist that I will meet with every week, I think using her as a resource during my program will really help me to stay on track and implement what I have learned into my curriculum.

There are many online resources that I can use, I can bounce ideas off of other fifth grade teachers, and the use of our curriculum specialist.
