Initial Feasibility / Expansion Strategic Plan

Executive Summary





New hospital building







KSRD is one of the biggest private health institutions in Slovenia with a vision to deliver high quality health care services to both public and private patients. Currently it holds a 0,4% market scare in acute hospital procedures within public system focusing on easier procedures mainly in the fields of abdominal, vascular (veins) and aesthetic surgery and opthalmology procedures. KSRD is also providing specialist medical consultations.







• The success of KSRD lies in a high quality of services (among the top Slovene hospitals based on the annual rating performed within public health system) and the above average productivity.

KSRD has the ambition to aggressively grow to achieve a 4-5 times todays volume in 4-5 years using a combination of organic growth and acquisitions. This means that KSRD is planning both the increase of the volume of work and the increase in the range of services it provides. KSRD is already holding the concessions to perform services within the public system for all the planned increase in the range of services except for MR and CT and urology. To bridge the gap KSRD will use acquisitions and will apply for additional concessions with the authorities KSRD wants to confirm itself as a leading private health care institutions in Slovenia. Initial financial analysis show that such an operation would generate enough cash flow to finance the growth and to provide adequate financial returns for investors.

The proposed legislative solution provides for a long term framework and financial security for possible private investors.





Strategic vision







KSRD wants to remain firmly based as a surgical hospital with all supporting diagnostic infrastructure offering the patient all necessary services at the same place. Besides surgical fields that KSRD is already working in such as abdominal, proctology, vascular (veins) and ophthalmology, it wants to: – enhance the field of abdominal surgery with endoscopic and gastroscopis diagnostic procedures – enhance the field of vascular surgery with arterial surgery and invasive angiologic procedures and diagnostics – increase the volume of plastic surgery – form an aesthetic surgery centre – start with orthopaedic surgery – start with urology procedures and diagnostics Such a range of service would not be complete without a modern radiology department comprising CT, MR, standard radiology and mammography machines.

Expansion strategy

• KSRD has an ambitious goal to expand the operations more than 4-fold in 5 year time. To achieve this KSRD will follow a mixed strategy with comprises both acquisition and organic growth. In 2008 KSRD is planning to expand more aggressively into diagnostics by concluding acquiring a diagnostics operation in Maribor. • In 2009 KSRD is planning to expand into MR and CT medical services by acquisition. Market analysis shows that Slovenian market already has enough CT and MR machines installed compared to EU per capita levels. In 2010 new hospital building will be put into function. KSRD is planning to work with national health authorities to increase its involvement in the national public health service and to achieve a 2-3% market share (0,4% in 2006).

Old building will be in 2010 dedicated to aesthetics. Number of beds will be reduced to meet higher standards for private patients. KSRD is aiming to achieve a 60-70% market share by attracting 2-3 well known aesthetics surgeons already working partially within public system and partially with private patients but lacking proper facilities for performing the procedures. From 2010 onwards KSRD is planning to attract private patients who will by that time already have additional private insurance policies and therefore is looking for a strategic partner to achieve this goal. Based on initial estimation to achieve planned volumes of private patients a minimum of 100.000 private insurance policies will have to be sold to Slovene citizens. A large part of additional revenues from private patients are expected also from diagnostic procedures.





Dimensions







KSRD is planning to increase the size of ots premises to roughly 9000 m2 of net footage with building a new hospital and diagnostics building with a little more than 7000m2 net in 3 floors (basement included). KSRD is planning to convert existing location into a aesthetics surgery center with – surgical theatre with 3 surgical rooms – 15 hospital beds (decrease from current 23 beds) New hospital building will allow for: – two hospital wards with 30 beds each, “private” and general standard – a surgical theater with 4 operating rooms – a 4 bed intensive care unit – 10 consultation rooms – additional departmental diagnostics space





Organization and Planned volumes and utilizations

Special care will be taken to organize patient flow in such a way that will allow to maintain different levels of hospital standard and at the same time to achieve smooth patient flow. KSRD will strive to achieve a optimal layout to be able to separate local proceedings in ambulatories and diagnostic areas from surgical patients.
