FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Sustainability Study for Green Economy Cumberland, WI – December 22 2008 “It’s never too soon to start preparing for the benefits the new Green Economy will bring to our country. As resources dwindle and costs rise, towns and municipalities need to find ways to meet today’s demands and leave a healthy economy, culture and environment for future generations. That is the meaning of sustainability”, according to Jerry Schlei of Red Cedar Sustainability. Two members of that group are hosting a study circle for focused learning about the framework for development of sustainability, known internationally as “The Natural Step”. Shawn Tisdell and Jerry Schlei will host a 90 minute overview of “The Natural Step for Communities” by Sarah James and Torbjörn Lahti. Later sessions will give the group a working knowledge of the fundamentals of achieving sustainability, and will explore various examples of how the methods have been successful in other communities in Wisconsin and around the world. As they look at these various examples, they will begin to discuss specific opportunities for change in Cumberland and narrow this focus to achievable local action. The study circle is free and open to local government, business leaders and the general public. Date: Beginning January 6, 2009 Time: 7:30 – 9:00 P.M.
