STATEMENT FROM MAYOR JENNINGS ON THE PROCESS TO SELECT A NEW ALBANY POLICE CHIEF Albany, NY – Upon accepting the letter of retirement from Police Chief Tuffey, I have begun the process of initiating a nation-wide search to find the most qualified individual to lead the men and women of the Albany Police Department. Within the next several days, I will be announcing the members of a selection committee, who will be charged with developing the profile of the qualities required of the Chief’s position. Representatives from the Common Council, faith-based, educational, governmental, and neighborhood communities will comprise the panel, so that the process will be both inclusive and transparent. Once the managerial profile is developed, the formal application process will be initiated, with advertisement and promotion in both local and national publications. At this point, it is virtually impossible to determine the timeframe for when the appropriate candidate will be identified.
In the interim, please know that I have met with the “command staff’ of the Department, and have charged the two Deputy Chiefs, Steven Krokoff and Stephen Reilly, with overseeing the daily operations of the Albany Police Department. While this process unfolds, citizens and visitors are to be assured that there will be no interruption in the service provided by the dedicated men and women of the Department. #####
