Pre-K Newsletter Readers Workshop Writing Skills We are learning to tell stories through drawings. We are starting to learn to write letters and numbers and how to draw shapes. We are beginning to learn how to write our first names.
Everyday Math In Everyday math we are now concentrating on verbal counting and recognizing numbers 1-6 and other basic skills. We do this through ongoing routines, mathematical songs, rhythm, movement and games. We are now learning how to count to seven through the use of mathematical games. To practice counting at home, count things around your house. Count windows, doors, faucets, lamps, mirrors and other things around your house.
We are using two different programs to help us learn the skills we need to read. The SRA Language for Learning Program is helping us to recognize common objects and name them in complete sentences. It also helps us to learn our full name, the name of our school and our teacher’s name. We are also using The Wright Skills Phonological and Awareness Program. This program is helping us to develop oral language, respond to questions, and develop print and book concepts, and predictions about a story. We are also learning to identify the different parts of a book such as: title, book cover, author, illustrator and the title page of a book. We have just finished reading To Town by Joy Cowley. The children enjoyed learning about different types of transportation. Ask Reminders to Parents them about this topic. It is important that your child is in school everyday by 8:00 am sharp. Tear offs must be remitted in a timely fashion. We would appreciate if you would teach your child to put on his hat, coat, scarf and gloves as independently as possible. Kindly label all of your child’s clothing with their name .Don’t forget your child needs a change of clothing at school.
