A municipality with history, with traditions, with dignity present and European future. A unique combination of nature, strategy geographic position, cultural and history inheritance and European conditions of education, sport, rest, and tourism are our visiting-card.
Historical and geographical presentation
Pravets comes from the ancient times… The beginning of human activity on Pravets dates from the new stone age. Thracians and Romans, proto-Bulgarians and Slav left their scents here. Many Thracians tombs, the stone roads relics, villages and castles are quiet but sure proof for ancient life on this land. The name “Pravets” comes from “prav pat” – in English “straight road”. Here were ancient roads: The Roman Eskusus – Serdika, the medieval road Pliska – Preslav- Serdika, the road from the throne city of Tarnovo to Sredets in the time of the Second
The first written document for Pravets is dated on year 1430, and says that the village is dervendjiisko. The inhabitants guard the mountain passages and roads. Because of that Pravets is free from extraordinary tax-paying to the Ottoman Empire. The predetermines liberty-loving spirit of the people here. There are several old names of Pravets: Bogotvor or Borovets, Osikovski prohod, Beravcha, and Altan Beravcha. The proud and freedom-living spirit of people here predetermines there participation in natural-liberating fights. 14 are the revolutionists, which are took a part in the rebels of Hadji Dimitar and Stefan Karadja, Philip Totyo and Hristo Botev. The national liberation idea is engrossing the local natives and in 1871 the Apostle of the Bulgarian national liberating revolution Vasil Levski found a Secret revolution committee in Pravets.
Situated on the south-west hills of the pre-mountain of Stara Planina, Pravets stays on the shortest road, connecting the North-West Bulgaria with the capital Sofia – 55 km on the north-west. The municipality territory is a beautiful combination of the specific middle-high hills and meadows relief, which are flecked of rich river net of river Malak Iskar. Preservated and pure nature, floral variety, rich animal world. The favorable geographic location predetermines the millennium setter advance of the area around nowadays city.

A city with well-developed infrastructure , sport and tourist base. A city with excellent conditions for education – from primary school with traditions in educations activity, through elite high schools to university education. Pravets is history, culture, nature, romance. Pravets is a unique place for tuition, rest, sport, and tourism. Pravets has also got a modern sport complex with tennis courts. You can also play football , basketball and volleyball as well. The Golf & Spa Club Pravets will soon open with a modern hotel, houses and 18-hole golf terrain.
Schools in Pravets are one of the main things that make it so popular. There are primary school, 2 elite high schools and one university: The primary school is founded in 1820 as a monastery school by priest Geogri. In 1922- 1923 the school is named “Vasil Levski” In 1981 is opened the new building, which the school uses and today. High school with foreign languages teaching “Aleko Konstantinov” is founded in 1981. The school has modern furnished cabinets, a sport base and a swimming pool. Over 800 motivated high-school students are studying English, French, German, Italian, Spanish and Russian. Most of them students continue their education in other countries. But most of them are in France and
Professional High School of Computer Technologies and Systems, established in 1986, works as a department of the Technical University of Sofia. Over 1600 computer specialists have graduated the school and have developed successful careers both in Bulgaria and abroad. High School accepts candidates upon successful completion of 7th grade with math exam passed in the Technical University of Sofia.
The course of education lasts 6 years. After completing 12 and 13 grade and successful defense of a graduate thesis the student obtain a Diploma of Completed UpperSecondary of Professional Qualification- II or III level of microprocessor engineering. www.uktc.info
Business On the territory of Pravets there are many successful production, trade and service companies. The most popular is DASF – a factory for air-conditioners. Others are “Niki” Ltd. and “Jessy”. In Pravets there is a big disco, restaurants, modern hotels and others.
