“They had to put me in a sack!” Millvina (below right) was 10 months old at the time of the Titanic’s sinking.
Millvina Dean, who was the oldest Titanic survivor, was just 10 months old at the time of the sinking. She and her mother were one of the few third-class people to make it onto a lifeboat. Millvina was so tiny that they couldn’t reach across to the lifeboat to give her to her mother. Millvina later said, “They had to put me in a sack in order to reach from the boat deck to the lifeboat!” Millvina died at an impressive 96 years of age. Her father died in the sea when the Titanic sank. His fate on the ship is still unknown.
