The author framed a  story that has partially  developed characters and a  basic conflict, but does not  deliver a complete idea,  lesson, or theme through the  experience.     The narrative features some  application of figurative  language through  personification and symbols  or motifs. The usage of  technique is unclear at times. 

Lead is unimaginative, too  obvious or lacks a complete  introduction. The author  presents a situation, but is  missing structure and detail  to create the characters,  conflict, and ideas of a  complete narrative. 

Story has some structure  evident but at times is hard to  follow or is not well  organized. A few instances of  clutter or not enough  elaboration, but parts flows  evenly. Author’s voice is  developing and shows effort  that would benefit from  further crafting of personal  voice and style.  Writing has simplistic word  choice and some words are at  times repetitive. Story is  somewhat difficult to  understand as there are many  poorly constructed sentences  or fragments. Grammar,  spelling, and punctuation  reflect 5 to 6 errors. 

Story structure is greatly  lacking, interfering with  reader’s ability to  understand. Writing is too  short/long and loses focus  because of irrelevant detail  or no elaboration. Author’s  voice is not evident and  lacks personal narrative  voice and style that must be  revised through details.  Writing has too simplistic  word choice and is far too  repetitive. Paper is difficult  to read because of too  simplistic sentence  structure and/or many  fragments. Grammar,  spelling, and punctuation  show frequent errors. 

The narrative does not  feature figurative language  through personification and  symbols or motifs, or the  usage of technique is  incorrect.
