ILS 12-22: Tracking My Progress Name: ______________________ Period: ______
Day of Exam: Tuesday November 24th
Topics to master: The Atomic Model, Atomic Structure and The Periodic Table Self check your own progress by checking off where you are on the chart below:
Which describes you? I have I know I know Mastered no some most the idea idea
Atomic Model Targets: I can compare the ideas that Aristotle and Democritus had about atoms I can summarize the main points of Dalton’s Atomic Theory I can select an example for each part of Dalton’s Atomic Theory I can match Chadwick to the discovery of the neutron I can define an isotope I can connect the importance of the discovery of the neutron to isotopes I can describe how having more than 1 isotope can affect an element’s average atomic mass I can describe Thomson’s Cathode Ray experiment I can describe Rutherford’s Gold Foil experiment I can illustrate Bohr’s Model of the Atom I can summarize the main ideas behind the Quantum Model of the Atom
Atomic Structure Targets: I can name the three subatomic particles, their locations, & their charges in an atom. I can give the element name and symbol for assigned elements
History of the Periodic Table Targets: I can compare and contrast Mendeleev’s Periodic Table with the Modern Periodic Table
Organization of the Periodic Table Targets: I can differentiate between periods and groups on the periodic table I can use the periodic table to locate an element’s atomic mass & atomic number. I can determine how many protons, neutrons, and electrons an element or isotope has given its symbol, atomic number, and atomic mass. I can identify & give characteristics of metals, non-metals, & metalloids.
I can identify elements with similar chemical and physical properties using the periodic table. That is, I know that elements in a column on the Periodic Table have similar properties. I can locate alkali metals, alkaline earth metals, transition metals, metalloids(semi-conductors), halogens, and noble gases on the periodic table I can explain how the atom of one kind of element differs from the atom of another element, using information from the periodic table I can name and identify shells & orbitals and know how many electrons they hold. I can relate the organization of the periodic table to the arrangement of electrons within an atom
