Podcasts für den Deutschunterricht The following podcasts are available on i-tunes Deutschland and are free. I have picked these for my classes, but there are plenty more to choose from. audio podcasts: 1. Der Märchenpodcast: fairy tales from all over the world 2 to 5 minutes long, great to use for past tense and to have students retell the fairy tales, maybe draw a picture story etc. 2. Grimms Märchen: famous fairy tales by the Gebrüder Grimm, 5 to 20 minute episodes 3. NDR 90,3-Platt für Anfänger: 1 to 3 minute episodes explaining a new word in “Plattdeutsch” and how to use it. Great to have students listen to a different dialect of German, recommended for higher level classes. 4. Märchenstern and Märchen zum Lauschen: more fairy tales for listening video podcasts: 1. Germany’s next Topmodel: the German version of the American series, just something fun to watch, these are not full length episodes but rather highlights of each episode, the clips are 10 to 20 minutes long. 2. Käptn Blaubär: animated short stories about 2 to 3 minutes in length with play on words and taking “things” literally, sometimes just plain silly, great for the lower level classes to watch and have fun with, certain episodes can be linked to vocabulary and lessons worked on. 3. Marienhof und Verbotene Liebe: about 30 second previews to this German Soap Opera, great to use for students to predict what this series is about, create their own stories or soap opera using these clips as prompts. 4. neuneinhalb: German newscast for children dealing with current issues in Germany. Episodes are 7 to 10 minutes long and are easy for students to understand due to graphic organizers, pictures, interactive storylines, and easier vocabulary. 5. Sendung mit der Maus: 5 to 8 minute episodes explaining questions kids have such as : how are balloons made, religions of other countries, why does the teapot whistle, how do you tie a turban, how are braces made etc. (for children 6-12 years of age in Germany) 6. Wissen macht Ah!: 25 minute episodes along the same lines of the “Sendung mit der Maus”, the themes are more detailed and maybe even address kids over the age of 12. 7. Logo Nachrichten: another newscast for children, however, it is dealing with current world news and events as well. This show provides daily weather reports and a joke at the end. It uses the same helping tools as “neuneinhalb”. 8. Alisa-Folge deinem Herzen: A German soap opera with all the “fixings”. Before every episode there is a recap of what happened so far. This is a great show to watch and fun to work with. (I am so hooked)
