Passing Drills All passing drills can be adapted for inside and outside foot kicking, as well as receiving the pass Partner Passing - Pair student up with a ball between two - Have two cones positioned between sides to create goals - Students stand approximately 10 metres apart - Students are to pass the ball to one another, ensuring the ball travels through the goals - After 10 consecutive kicks, have one student take a step backwards to increase the distance - Continue the same process for given time Progression - Add task after each kick, e.g. spin in a circle - Add time limit - Introduce competition between students - Use inside and outside of foot passing KTPS - Ankle locked and thigh turned outward - Looking up - Connect with the middle of the ball just before the instep - Follow through - Accuracy towards partner and through cones Inside the Foot Passing - Two cones are positioned approximately 10m apart with two cones positioned in the middle as a window/goal - Students split into two groups, with one group lining up behind one cone, and the other group behind the other cone - The first player kicks the ball through the window to the student at the start of the other line - The player that kicked the ball then runs behind the line they just kicked to - Students continue this, kicking to each side and following their pass Progression - Have class compete against each other in competition format - Increase kicking distance - Manipulate for outside foot kicking KTPS - Ankle locked and thigh turned outward - Looking up - Connect with the middle of the ball just before the instep - Follow through - Accuracy towards partner Box to Box - Two boxes are created with cones, approximately 10 x 12 metres with space in-between - Students are split into two teams of four, with one student positioned in each corner of the box - One side of the box is attack and one side is defence - The ball is passed diagonally from the defence side to the attack side, who then passes across to the other attack player
-
The ball is then passed back to the defence with a kick down the line - The defence then kicks the ball diagonally to the attack player in the other box - The ball follows the same pattern around the two boxes Progression - Add a time limit to complete the full two boxes - Add competition between other teams - Increase kicking distance - Use inside and outside of foot kicking KTPS - Ankle locked and thigh turned outward - Connect with the middle of the ball just before the instep - Follow through - Accuracy towards partner 1 In 1 Out - Students are divided into four lines that form a square with one player starting in the middle of the square - Two soccer balls are required. Have all ball for one diagonal line, and one for the other - The first soccer ball is passed to the middle player - The player in the middle receives the pass, turns 180 degrees and passes to the opposite line. They then follow their pass to the back of the line - The player who passed the ball at the start then runs into the middle to receive the second soccer ball and follow the same process as the first player - Continue through, with students following their pass Progression - Players can only pass, receive and turn with their weaker foot - Increase passing distance - Change type of turn - Use for inside or outside of foot pass KTPS - Connect with the middle of the ball just before the instep - Follow through - Accuracy towards partner - Effective turn and movement
