September 14, 2009 Dear Parents,

Students have finished writing their first personal narrative and as we begin our second piece I would like to provide the students with more feedback on a weekly basis about their writing. I need your help to do this! If you have gone through the volunteer training and signed the volunteer contract, please consider working in our classroom 30 minutes a week to help with writing conferences. The time in the morning would be 8:45-9:15 am and the time in the afternoon would be 12:30-1 pm Monday-Thursday. This is my third year to provide literacy workshop in my classroom, but this is the first year I have asked for parent volunteers to help with writing conferences. Not only will this allow you an opportunity to see a classroom of writers work, but students enjoy sharing their writing with others and it helps them feel valued as a writer. Your time will not be spent correcting grammar and spelling, but allowing the writer an opportunity to dialogue about their writing journey. Sometimes providing a listening ear helps the writer move in the direction they need. Thank you so much for considering this opportunity. I have included dates and times below.
