Answer key Task 2 Question 1
Suggested model answer for Task 2 Question 1 (about 250 words) Dear Sir / Madam
Re: Attracting more young people to The Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens
I am writing to suggest ideas on how you could attract more young visitors to your zoo.
One event I think would attract more young people is a photography competition for the best photo of the zoo. You could organise the competition according to age groups. This would encourage people of all ages to visit the zoo to take photographs. Then, an exhibition of all the entries could be displayed at several major malls around Hong Kong, which would encourage even more people to visit.
Next, I think an adventure zone would attract more young visitors. The zone could have climbing walls, nets and ropes to play on. Each zone could feature a different animal. For example, the climbing walls could have pictures of orangutans climbing in their natural habitat and loudspeakers could play their loud calls. This would make the attraction fun and educational.
My final suggestion is to make the zoo’s name and logo livelier. Some young visitors may be confused by the zoo’s long name. If you change the name to Hong Kong Zoo, it will be much easier for young people to remember. Young people are also attracted by lively logos. To attract more young visitors, the zoo’s name could be designed with a twisty vine or you could include a lively picture.
I think your zoo will attract more young people if you use my suggestions of holding a photography competition, having an adventure zone, and making the zoo’s name and logo livelier.
Yours faithfully

Answer key Task 2 Question 2
Suggested model answer for Task 2 Question 2 (about 250 words) My life as a racehorse
Cheered by my fans, I am at a full sprint towards the finish line. Beating all my opponents, I trot to the winner’s circle, where a ribbon is pinned to my saddle. Tomorrow, I leave for New York, where more fans will cheer as I race around the track. This is why if I could be any animal or bird, I would choose to be a racehorse.
First, racehorses are the most beautiful creatures on earth. They are strong yet also elegant and graceful. If I were a racehorse, I would be shiny black with long, muscular legs and a gleaming mane and tail. All over the world, fans would take photos of me — if they could capture me before I sped past.
Next, racehorses display what I admire most: power, determination and spirit. There is a reason why a horse’s strength is used to measure the power of an engine. Racehorses also show serious determination and spirit in order to train and win. If I were a racehorse, I would put all these qualities into winning each race.
Last, as a top racehorse I would travel the world and compete in the most prestigious competitions. Unlike other animals and birds that worry about finding food and places to rest, I would be transported around the globe in style with adoring fans meeting me at each destination.
Life does not get any better than being a beautiful, powerful, world-travelling racehorse. Now, it is time for a soothing wash and warm oats as my reward before flying to my next destination.
