Like everybody else, I receive messages and emails; links to different sites and little bits of information from all sorts of associates, friends and family. Also, like everybody else, I read them, send a comment where appropriate, and try to decide whether or not I’m affected by the momentous information with which I’ve just been presented. I recently opened a message from a woman that must have me on a general mailing list for jokes and cartoons. Usually they’re good for a laugh, especially when I’ve just spent the morning engrossed with my daily dose of doom that is CNN or CBS News. Sometimes this person will send me information about health tips and food dangers. When I opened this latest one I realised that I’d seen this one before. It wasn’t really a surprise. During the course of a day I take in a lot of information from many different places, and the internet can be a useful source if you’re careful. Touted as the information highway, some people use it to obtain all of their cumulative knowledge. Myself, for current events, I prefer to have CNN or the History Channel going as background noise while I cross-reference partial stories told by mainstream media on the internet. Having just one source of information is dangerous. Keeping informed is more than just knowing what you’re told. This particular email was about a scientific study done to illustrate the dangers of microwave use.
