Israeli Leaders: Literally Criminals By Reuven Schossen Schossen.com The first thing people think whenever I tell them that the government of Israel is criminal, is that I am referring to its violations of Human Rights. In a sense they are correct, the Israeli government is proud to ignore basic rights - it has even passed legislation specifically enabling it to do so. In my writings and talks, it's true, I am usually referring to that aspect of Israeli institutionalized corruption.

Bush to depict U.S. foes in the Middle East as "fascists" and its domestic critics as "appeasers" owes a great deal to steadily intensifying efforts by the right-wing press over the past several months to draw the same comparison. The Rupert Murdoch-owned Fox News Network and The Weekly Standard, as well as the Washington Times, which is controlled by the Rev. Sun Myung Moon's Unification Church, and the neoconservative New York Sun, have consistently and with increasing frequency framed the challenges faced by Washington in the region in the context of the rise of fascism and Nazism in the 1930s, according to a search of the Nexis database by IPS. All of those outlets, as well as two other right-wing U.S. magazines - The National Review and The American Spectator - far outpaced their commercial rivals in the frequency of their use of key words and names, such as "appeasement," "fascism," and "Hitler," particularly with respect to Iran and its controversial president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Immunity from War Crimes When Criticism of Cluster Bombs is "AntiSemitic" By STANLEY HELLER The Israeli paper Ha'aretz reports that the head of Germany's Jewish community accused a minister in Angela Merkel's German government of "anti-Semitism" because of the minister's statement on Israel's use of cluster bombs. Development Aid Minister Heidemarie Wieczorek-Zeul had asked for a United Nations probe into Israel's use of cluster bombs in civilian areas of Lebanon. Charlotte Knobloch, president of the Central Council of German Jews, complained about what she terms a growing "anti-mood [sic] against Israel and the Jews" in Germany. Jewish Disgust with Israel In a very encouraging development hundreds of U.S. Jews are calling for strong measures to be taken against the Israeli government including a cut off of U.S. aid and U.N. sanctions. Over 800 have signed the statement calling for "U.S. Jewish Solidarity with Muslim and Arab Peoples of the Middle East". It states "we are outraged by the violence being perpetrated in our name both as Jews and as U.S. citizens. We, the undersigned, represent Jews across the United States who are choosing to stand in solidarity with the peoples of Gaza and Lebanon". It includes the statement, "There is no Jewish safety in a country that rehearses the violence and persecution which Ashkenazi Jews experienced for centuries through the annihilation of the Palestinian people and their homeland." The signers are collecting money for a full page in the New York Times and are just $800 away from their goal.
