Our Lady of Sorrows Church
From the Pastor’s Desk My Dear People: This coming Saturday is a great feast and though it is not a holy day of obligation this year, it is the feast of Jesus glorifying His mother, joining her soul with her body after death and taking it immediately to heaven. Though this doctrine is not biblical, it is the constant tradition of the Church that Jesus would not, as none of us would, leave His mother’s body to rot in the earth when He had the power to take it glorified immediately to heaven. The Feast of the Assumption of Mary has special meaning at OLS because this year it is the 17th anniversary of starting Perpetual Adoration in the Chapel of Our Savior. We will celebrate this anniversary with Benediction before the 5:00 p.m. Saturday Mass with its special intention being gratitude to God and for the welfare of the 325 committed adorers and substitutes. A dinner will be served in the Family Life Center for these adorers and their families. OLS is a most successful parish and it is no secret that Jesus in the Chapel of Our Savior keeps OLS running smoothly and full speed ahead to God’s eternal kingdom. They say that a parish that has perpetual adoration is especially blessed but I say this is an understatement. I find it makes a parish extremely blessed. There are endless people who come to the Chapel at all hours of the day and night and it is like going up the mountain of the transfiguration to feel an extra closeness to Jesus with all of our problems and thoughts of gratitude for all of our blessings. Another pleasant letter was on my desk this week. It is from Bob Henger, who is a faithful member of our parish and who delivers the food on Monday mornings to the Catholic
Center of Concern. He wrote that since we brought the food baskets back to the vestibule, the food donations are brimming over. The Center of Concern was delighted with the delivery because their food shelves keep getting empty during these times of recession. He said he liked the idea of the council redesigning the vestibule and arranging a more aesthetic food deposit container. He wanted me to read his letter to the parish council but I decided to simply summarize it here. A warm welcome to Father Jaya (think of letter J and add the A). He comes to us from the southern part of India, a very different province from the province of the two Fr. Jose’s who have served here. With eighteen different official dialects in India, they understand each other only in English. Father has been ordained ten years, having served his bishop as his secretary, and then as pastor of a sizeable parish for the last five years. Fr. Jaya’s bishop has offered him to our diocese for three to five years. He is grateful that his first assignment is at OLS. Mrs. Lynne Stella, Director of the Catholic Children’s Learning Center, (next to 29th Court) begged me to state a reminder that the drive in front of the center is a ONE WAY traffic pattern. Going against this creates a hazard since others would not be aware of this violation in the flow of traffic. One can enter the parking lot from Central Avenue, or use the alley on the other side of the barbeque pit. The only exception to this is the 3:00 p.m. pick up line for the OLS school children. Thank you in advance for observing these one way signs! With prayers and blessings, Fr. Muller
