Our Lady of Sorrows Church

From the Pastor’s Desk My Dear People: The fundamental question for us human beings is whether or not God, our Creator and Redeemer, comes first. Do we put God who wants us in heaven for all eternity second, making other things more important? Today, I am addressing two issues indicating where we place God in our lives. The first issue is our commitment to Catholic Charities, the umbrella of so many charities in different areas: the Mentally Retarded, the Catholic Centers of Concern, seminary costs for future priests, various diocesan ministries for Youth, for Hispanics, Campus ministry and the lists goes on. In addition to the five percent to the parish that we give, is there not something we can all pledge for the diocesan needs as mentioned above? The second issue regarding putting God first is addressed to those who have no religious affiliation but who come to Mass on occasion and know deep within themselves they should honor God with an investigation of what the Catholic Church teaches with getting serious about giving God the time for investigating the Catholic faith since He is to be first in our lives. We should not antagonize people by nagging them to attend the RCIA classes; but one invitation shows them that you have a healthy concern for them. If they choose not to attend, they will at least know they were invited. Our RCIA sessions are open to a diverse group of people. They range all the way from the unbaptized to the baptized. We have baptized Protestants who might be interested in becoming Catholic and we have those who are married or engaged to a Catholic and are just curious about what their spouses or future spouses really believe.

The RCIA sessions begin a week from Monday, October 5, at 7:00 p.m. with a light supper served at 6:30 p.m. There are no expectations that anyone will become a Catholic; some do and some don’t and some wait for a year or two. If you cannot come to the first class, do not give up. Call Anne Verchot at (979-0486 h 482-8627 c) and let her know you still plan to come. Any missed classes are on CD’s or tapes. If you have a friend interested, bring the friend to the first two or three sessions. May all of us pray for those who are still searching for the best way to worship God. With prayers and blessings, Fr. Muller

In 2000 Pope John Paul II designated the first Saturday in October as World Rosary Day. On this day millions of people all over the world will be gathering to pray the Rosary for Peace. This year on Saturday, October 3, Our Lady of Sorrows will sponsor the 9th annual Candlelight Rosary Procession. Immediately following the 5:00 p.m. Mass, the procession will begin at the shrine of the Madonna and Child in front of the church and will continue visiting the various shrines on OLS church grounds. Our country needs prayer. Join us and pray for the powerful intercession of Our Blessed Mother as we entrust our families, our nation, and the world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. ____________________________________ Jesus asks us to live our lives as He has taught us—to love one another as He has loved us.
