Abstract This study was undertaken to find out the level of the literary interpretation skills of BSED Social Science and Mathematics majors of the College of Education at West Visayas State University. It was conducted during the last week of January, in the second semester of school year 2006-2007. The descriptive method of research was used in this study. The respondents were 39 BSED Mathematics majors and 19 BSED Social Science majors of the College of Education at WVSU. The instrument was a 50-item multiple choice type of test that included lines taken from selected literary pieces with three different interpretations as choices. The test was adopted from the master’s unpublished thesis of Victoria S. Villa entitled “English Proficiency and Literary Interpretation Skills of College Freshmen at

Results revealed that the literary interpretation skills of the Social Science and Mathematics majors of the COE at WVSU were very satisfactory.
