Welcome to Örebro On behalf of Örebro University and the International Fadderiet we would like to wish you a warm welcome to Örebro. We are very delighted that you have decided to spend part of your time as a student in Sweden and Örebro. We assure you that the coming time here will include learning a lot, getting many new experiences, meeting lots of people, Swedish as well as Internationals, with whom you surely will make long lasting friendships. International Fadderiet (or as we say; “Fadderiet”) is a student association created for the benefit of the exchange students. Our aim is to help you integrate to the Swedish way of life and give you a chance to experience as much as possible during your stay in Sweden. Fadderiet will organise indoor and outdoor activities, cultural events, parties, excursions and trips within Sweden. Fadderiet consists of around 60 fadders (Swedish “buddies”), a board of 10 students, all working on a voluntary basis, and the International Student Co-ordinator who works full time for one year. We are all working to make your stay in Örebro as pleasant as possible. If you want to know more about us, who we are and what we do, check out our website: www.fadderiet.se We are all very excited to have you here in Örebro. Welcome! Useful information You will be divided into faddergroups before your arrival. These groups consists of other exchange students and 2-3 Swedish students who will help you integrate as fast as possible to Swedish student life. Their function is being your support, socially and practically, and are your door to the Swedish society as a whole! Use them well! Most students in Örebro move around by bike and we will help you to rent a bike during your time in Örebro. At the moment the cost is 125 SEK each month and there is a deposit of 300 SEK. At your arrival it will also be possible to buy a pillow and quilt for around 100 SEK. Please indicate on the Fadderiet form if you need these things. On arrival you will also be provided with a Swedish SIM-card and phone number. The SIMcard is compatible with most GSM mobile phones that are not locked to any mobile phone company and support the European GSM net. The card is already charged with 25 SEK and is a so called “pre-paid” meaning that you can call for whatever sum you charge it with. It is provided to you by Tele2 with a special deal on foreign calls. There is no starting or monthly fee and there is no minute rate to other Tele2 customers. So bring your mobile (cellular) phones that you easily can be contacted during your stay in Örebro. It is wise, even if you are an European citizen, to bring your passport. It might come in handy when travelling to neighbouring countries, when opening a bank account etc. Please bring your passport.
