INSERTION Lateral lip of intertubercular groove of humerus

Subclavius

Junction of 1st rib and its costal cartilage

Nerve to Subclavius C5, C6

Serratus Anterior

External surfaces of lateral parts of 1st 8 ribs Medial third of superior nuchal line, external occipital protruberance, nuchal ligament and C7-C12 vertebrae

Inferior surface of middle third of clavicle (clue: groove for subclavius muscle is in the inferior surface of clavicle) Anterior surface of medial border of scapula Lateral third of clavicle and acromion and spine of scapula

Stabilizes scapula, draws scapula anterior and inferiorly (upward and downward rotator) Anchors and depresses clavicle

Long Thoracic Nerve C5, C6 and C7

Protracts and rotates scapula

Spinous process of inferior 6 thoracic

Medial border and superior surface of coracoid process

INNERVATION LPN, MPN Clavicular Head – C5, C6 Sternocostal Head – C7, C8 and T1 (clue: since it is the bigger muscle, it needs more innervation) MPN C8, T1

ACTION FADIR, sternocostal head extends humerus from flexed position. Draws scapula anterior and inferiorly (upward and downward rotator)

vertebrae, thoracolumbar fascia, iliac crest and inferior 3 or 4 ribs

groove of humerus

MUSCLE Levator Scapulae

ORIGIN Posterior tubercles of transverse processes of c1-c4 vertebrae

INSERTION Medial border of scapula superior to root of spine

Rhomboid Major and Minor

Minor: Nuchal ligament; spinous processes of C7 and T1 vertebrae Major: Spinous processes of T2 and T5 vertebrae

Deltoid

Lateral third of clavicle; acromion and spine of scapula

Minor: smooth triangular area at medial end of scapular spine Major: medial border of scapula from level of spine to inferior angle Deltoid tuberosity of humerus

Supraspinatus

Supraspinous fossa of scapula Infraspinous fossa of scapula Middle part of lateral border of scapula

Infraspinatus Teres Minor Teres Major Subscapularis

Posterior surface of inferior angle of scapula Subscapular fossa (most of anterior surface of scapula)

Superior facet of greater tubercle Middle facet of greater tubercle Inferior facet of greater tubercle of humerus Medial lip of intertubercular groove of humerus Lesser tubercle of humerus

INNERVATION Cervical Nerves C3 C4 and Dorsal Scapular Nerve C4 and C5 Dorsal Scapular Nerve (C4 and C5)

ACTION Elevate scapula and downward rotator of scapula
