If you give a Mom a muffin, “For every house is built by She'll want a cup of coffee to go with it. someone, but He who built She'll pour herself some. all things is God.” The coffee will get spilled by her three year old. She'll wipe it up. Hebrews 3:4 Wiping the floor, she will find some dirty socks. She'll remember she has to do some laundry. When she puts the laundry in the washer, she'll trip over some snow boots and bump into the freezer. Bumping into the freezer will remind her she has to plan dinner for tonight. She will get out a pound of hamburger. Next MOPS Meeting She will look for her cookbook (101 Things to Make with a Pound of Hamburger). Tuesday, October 23rd, 9:15am The cookbook is sitting under a pile of mail. Over-scheduling our Kids She will see the phone bill which is due tomorrow. She will look for her checkbook. CCC’s Fall Fun Fest The checkbook is in her purse that is being Tuesday, October 31st, 6-8:30pm dumped out by her two year old. She'll smell something funny. “got friends?” Women’s Conference She'll change the two year old. Fri., Nov. 4th 7-10pm & While she is changing the two year old the phone Sat., Nov. 5th, 8:30am-2:30pm will ring. Her four year old will answer it and hang up. November MOPS Meetings She remembers that she wants to phone a friend Nov. 13th/27th at 9:15am to come for coffee on Friday. The Heart of a Meal & Unmentionables! Thinking of coffee will remind her that she was (Bring a recipe and OCC items on the 13th) going to have a cup. She will pour herself some. And chances are... If she has a cup of coffee... Her kids will have eaten the muffin that went with it. psychologists as "self-talk." Relentless, repetitive self-talk transforms our self-image-for good or for bad. It modifies both our inner and outer worlds. We will do what our thoughts tell us to do. God knows that. That's why God desires His truth to cover all our thoughts. I don't know about you, but there's often a distinction between the thoughts I invite into my inner world and those God establishes. My thoughts are anything but stable. They waver and change. They accuse when they should praise. They mock when they should trust. Continued on page 4 “...he lives with you and will be in you.” John 14:17

Ask a Mentor Mom
Q:
How does a mom handle indirect
pressures from family and friends, especially around the holidays?
A:
Try “The Art of Acknowledgement” — Acknowledging means we respond verbally to the “elephants in our rooms,” in our conversations, and in our own heads. In our heads for example: “I’m feeling scared and stressed since Susie told me about the elaborate, expensive and creative Halloween costume she plans for Tommy.” Now that it’s out there you can think, “Do I want to invest that much effort? What does it mean to my child? What difference will it make in a month from now? The art of acknowledgement in our conversations: To your inlaws: “I have the feeling that you often wish you could spend more time with your grandchildren and us. We are really grateful for that. Considering how difficult it is for a young family to pack up and travel, could we talk about some healthy ways to work on this? What do you think?” To your husband: “Honey, I know you must feel that there’s not enough of me to go around since we had kids.” No need to fix the problem. Simply acknowledge it and see what happens. ~ MM: Alice McKinley

Minding Thoughts continued from page 1 That's why it's so important for me not to trust my thoughts--but instead to seek God thoughts. There is really no mystery to how to do this. All you have to do is ask! Listen to this: "If you need wisdom-if you want to know what God wants you to do-ask him, and he will gladly tell you. He will not resent you asking. But when you ask him, be sure that you really expect him to answer, for a doubtful mind is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. People like that should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. They can't make up their minds. They waver back and forth in everything they do" James 1:5-8 (NLT) God knows that our lives, our families, and the training up of our kids can be transformed if we depend upon His thoughts instead of our own. Ask God to enrich your words and thoughts. Then, confess, talk truth, and depend on the Spirit within you. No great mystery about that--but the results will be astonishing! ©Tricia Goyer By Tricia Goyer, author of Generation NeXt Parenting
