SHARING OUR GIFTS Autumn is the season for harvesting and sharing the fruits of our labors. This week’s scriptures use images of the harvest, family life, pregnancy, and investment to describe the abundant harvest in the reign of God. We discover that sharing the gifts we have been given brings eternal rewards for everyone. In the Gospel parable a master entrusts his possessions to three servants before going on a journey. Each is given some talents. What they do with those talents determines what the master will do with them when he returns. How about us? What are we doing with our talents? How will our Master treat us when he returns? © Copyright, J. S. Paluch Co.

LIKE PRECIOUS JEWELS
When one finds a worthy wife, her value is far beyond pearls. Her husband, entrusting his heart to her, has an unfailing prize. Proverbs 31:10 “What’s the secret of your marriage?” my wife and I have been asked on many occasions while helping prepare young couples for married life in our parish’s marriage preparation program. We talk about respect, communication and our shared faith. As I read this Scripture passage, I realize that the “unfailing prize” of our marriage is that, on the
day we wed, we entrusted our hearts to one another. For twenty-eight years we have managed, through faith, prayer and a mutual understanding of our commitment to daily affirm that trust. We didn’t say, “Let’s give it a shot and see what happens.” We didn’t run the course until the course got too tough. We just entrusted our hearts to one another. We’re not better people than those whose marriages have failed. We’re not perfect. But we have never failed to remember that we hold each other’s hearts, cradled like precious jewels, never to be broken or traded. Lord, thank you for giving us people who we can trust with our hearts. S

BIBLE SEARCH 1. True or False? Although the book of Proverbs is a collection of hundreds of separate sayings by several authors, it has a clearly defined purpose. (Proverbs 1:2-
6)
2. What is true of each of the twenty-two verses of Proverbs 31:10-31? a) Each begins with the same word. b) The first letter of each verse forms an acrostic of the author’s name. c) The first letter of each verse consecutively follows the Hebrew alphabet.
F ROM F ATH ER ’ S D ESK Upon ordination, I received a healing and anointing set. It is the Kit I use to anoint sick people in the hospital. It has a cross, an oil container, and a prayer book. Some of you might have seen it, had I visited you in the hospital. I am surprised that I still have it. Usually most of the gifts that I have received have been lost or broken. You cannot expect a person to keep something for seventeen years. The Healing
and anointing set was a special gift because it is used in the service of others, in that it lets those who are ill feel the Presence of God even in the midst of their suffering. We all have gifts and talents that have been given to us. I would like to call them Blessings from God. Sometimes those Blessings, even though they were given to us, were sometimes meant to be gifts given in the service of others and to God. So often we want to keep those Blessings to ourselves. In Matt. 25:14-30 we are reminded that we cannot keep the light under a bushel basket. It was meant for all to see. Service to others and God removes us from selfishness and being self-centered. As Christians we are called to be workers for the kingdom of God. If you consider yourself a person of Faith, our actions must follow our beliefs. Lord in heaven, you have given me many blessings. How can all that I am AND HOPE to be respond to the many wonderful gifts you have given me?

A Stewardship Minute “The only ultimate value in our lives is the love God has for us.” This sentence is packed with a salient truth! Notice the words: “Ultimate” means last or final or utmost. “Value” means worth or importance. “The love God has for us” focuses upon the deep personal affection God has for each of us. Think of God’s everlasting love surrounding us, supporting us, and blessing us every second of our lives. Even in difficult times, that truth should make our lives hum with conficence, assurance, faith, hope, and love. Think of it! The love of our Creator for each of us…and we cannot be separated from it…ever. What amazing grace! Yes, we have the freedom to ignore it, shun it and even doubt
it. Yet the New Testament tells us God’s eternal love for us is an unwavering fact. Surely that reality leaves us with our hearts bursting with gratitude day in and day out. Our response should be to love God and others in return. Publishing,LLC
