Mrs. Burls First Grade News November 16-20, 2009 This week we’ll read Ann’s Trip to the Stars, Mark’s Big Day, and Putting on a Play. Please read with and listen to your child read each day. As you listen to your child read, see if he/she can retell the story. Have him or her tell you what happened at the beginning, in the middle, and then at the end of the story. Also, please help your child study the sight words. The new sight word flashcards will be sent home on Tuesday.
NOTE: I will be sending home a fluency passage for your child to practice reading by the end of this week and a timer. Please time your child reading for 1 minute. The goal is for first graders to read a minimum of 30 words per minute or more by the first week of December.
