z Congratulations, Dick Garland z

Last week’s “marble draw” winner was veteran Rotarian Dick Garland. With only 9 blue marbles in the cup, Dick’s chances were looking good, and he was able to do what 40 others before him were unable to do: pick the white marble!!!

Building “Green”

Tony Mirenda, CEO of TBI

Construction and his V.P., Ben Petty gave an informative update to our members on the state of “Green Design & Building in Silicon Valley.” Thinking “green” in building design and construction is not just a politically correct fad. sustainable design elements like double pane windows and use of natural light, as well as recycling some of the resources in the existing buildings. They have also recently completed a “very green” new Town Center for the City of Portola Valley, incorporating recycled materials, sun power and new elements of water efficiency. Tony & Ben also mentioned that more and more governmental agencies are providing either incentives or penalties or both for new projects in their jurisdictions. “Going Green,” according to Tony, “is here to stay.”

Queen for a day

At a recent club meeting, we met Miss Teen California, complete with sash and tiara. Member Delbar Jahanian mentioned to her table-mates that she always wanted to have some kind of a crown. Enter jolly-good fellow, Bob Yager. Last week Bob presented Delbar with her very own tiara, proclaiming her Campbell Rotary Queen for the day. We think Bob’s pretty much a “Prince” of a guy, himself. :-)
