z Meet The Members z

Check page 2 of today’s Newsletter for a new feature, “Meet the Members.” From time to time, we will post articles about our members and their interests both in and outside of Rotary. Be ready to speak to our intrepid reporter when he calls on you! Smile.

“THEY PROFIT MOST WHO SERVE BEST” Rotary's best-known motto is "Service above Self", and its secondary motto is "They profit most who serve best". In combination, these two mottos almost define the Rotary experience. Our main purpose is service, and our service is both pleasurable and rewarding. In leads us to great friendships and memorable experiences. It also connects us to powerful resources that we an apply to projects that we ourselves want to start up. Our Club has active work in progress in all of the Avenues of Service, and it it offers each of us the opportunity to participate, to receive training, and to lead. Polio Plus. There is a role for everyone in this, and it is important for each Club member to choose a role, great or small, and perform it with an enthusiasm that encourages others. Your Club officers and Committee chairs will continue to inform and encourage all members in a way that makes participation easy. My year of service as president comes at a time when our Club is near a high point in membership and in effectiveness. It is an honor and a responsibility which I do not take lightly. I want to thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve you in this way, and I want to thank John Shannon and Jerry Cummings, my predecessors, for their leadership of the good Club that we now share.

Phil Nielsen. Phil is an attorney in downtown San Jose who specializes in estate planning (wills and trusts), estate administration (probate and trust administration) and a little business work (corporations, LLCs and partnerships).

Phil has been an active Rotarian since 1979 and has served as President (1993-94), Treasurer (many years) and Board Member.

Adam Beck

This selfproclaimed “adrenaline junkie” has a very full schedule. He is VicePresident of Beck’s Shoes, a family operation that has been open for business since 1919. Adam is also a Volunteer Firefighter in Ben Lomond and is pursuing certification as an

Emergency Medical Specialist.

Adam was introduced to Rotary by his grandfather, a Past-President of the Campbell Rotary Club. Adam’s passion to serve others makes for a great firefighter and a great Rotarian.

The family shoe business, “Beck’s Shoes” with 10 stores in

California, and a new one in Reno, Nevada.

He tells his salespeople that “our customers don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.”
